Us
We tried and failed. And failures we,
Failed in ways so desperately
And on to stars we hooked our ropes
And filled our hearts with desperate hopes.
But none could face the skull behind
Staring through with eyeless mind
Ourselves, we fled, imprisoned all
Entrapped, we paced, to await the fall.
Was not there one to face the task?
With courage, to set us free?
Perhaps a savior comes, at last?
To save myself from me.
So fools they sat and chanted and sung.
And distracted themselves all day.
But the responsibility relief never rung.
Their heart needs amending their way.
But if you told them that this were true.
It’d be the first thing they deny.
But in their hearts they knew it quite through
But felt fully compelled to lie.
For in their mind sat the cruel dark deep dread
That they’d rather be killing, than face it, when dead.
So here we sit, quite paralyzed
And perhaps we come to realize
That what we thought would happen next.
That leads our boats into shipwrecks
Gives us a chance to fee our minds
And perhaps learn how to be more kind.
My delusion, my hope, that this is so.
My hope for a chance to watch it grow.
