$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TWilliam', 'E')ven the act of smiling at a stranger, if you think about it, is really a subtle attempt to diffuse possible aggression on their part...

I don't know, around here if you are a stranger going around smiling at everyone, you might get your ass kicked.

After thinking about this for a bit, something else I've noticed about myself is that as I've developed a greater degree of equanimity toward the vicissitudes of life over the years - in other words, as fear has significantly diminished as a motivating force - I find that my tendency to respond with laughter to what most people perceive as humor has also greatly diminished. With Carlin's schtick for example, I notice that my response now is more often along the lines of nodding my head in knowing agreement with his observations than bust-a-gut laughter.

That would be entirely consistent with my proposition given certain demographics, since doing so would be perceived (on an instinctive level) as a threat by same...

Yes, I agree. Smiley people are a threat.

Out here in nut and fruit land strangers regularly smile at each other. As a 15-year resident I've gotten used to it and now I do the same.

Here it depends on what sex the person is that you are smiling at (relative to your orientation).

Might explain why we instinctively recoil from smiling salesmen. They're definitely a threat to one's wallet at least...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dorlomin', 'A')ctualy there is a British comedian called Robert Newman who has had an entire tour dedicated to breaking the concept of peak oil too who ever will listen. It even made it onto UK TV. It is occasionaly posted on here. It explicitly sets out to tell people what they dont know.

e2a
fek it. Here it is again.

Thanks for that Dorlomin! That was a fantastic video. I especially loved the section where he is talking about the inca civilization ending, and he says that they didn't just stand on top of the temple and say "this is bollocks!" ha ha. That's a great comic routine of peak oil. For those who overlooked that link, totally recommended people! Also loved the line 'bringing democracy to the middle east'.

On another note, Carlin has covered the businessman's smile before. It's just before his routine on religion and the 'invisible man in the sky who needs money'.

He calls that smile, the bullshit businessman's smile. The one he cracks just as he is about to f**k you in the a**. It's funny, this stuff about chimps and smiling. I saw a mccain video the other day, and his lying smile really struck in my mind. He has a hard time even pulling a smile, let alone convincing you.

I know who I'd trust! Who would you trust?

Ain't that the truth. There are some pics I've seen of him where I swear he looks like the Joker from Batman. Not that the Dems are any better, but god help us if that obviously deceitful b@stard gets into the White House...

I really don't think he could do any more damage than has already been done. And when I say this, I'm not blaming Bush. People use Bush as a scapegoat for everything. How convenient and easy is that. It means people don't have to do anything, if they have someone as amusing as Bush to blame.

Re: George Carlin Talks Peak Oil And The End Coming.

Postby killJOY » Mon 12 May 2008, 07:50:49

Ironically enough, yesterday someone from work sent me a spam of George Carlin's "solution" to high gasoline prices:

Deport all 11 million illegal aliens.

This is grossly disappointing: not that I want illegal aliens here, or am against controls, but this "solution" is just scapegoating, pure and simple.

The US STILL consumes more oil per capita, whether one includes illegals or not.

There's going to be much, much more of this, maybe even actual persecutions and deportations, and when that doesn't "solve" the problem, the persecutions will intensify, and so it goes....

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use..... The best way to stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants!

That would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come down.....

Alas, George, you've become what you hate.

It's a fake. People write fake Carlin pieces all the time and distribute them via email. They use his name to get people to forward their weak ideas. This one is clearly fake and retarded. As usual, the writing is weak and stupid.

This is what Carlin says about the crap that is attributed to him. This is from his website

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')ON'T BLAME ME
Floating around the Internet these days, posted and e-mailed back and forth, are a number of writings attributed to me, and I want people to know they're not mine. Don't blame me.

Some are essay-length, some are just short lists of one and two-line jokes, but if they're flyin' around the Internet, they're probably not mine. Occasionally, a couple of jokes on a long list might have come from me, but not often. And because most of this stuff is really lame, it's embarrassing to see my name on it.

And that's the problem. I want people to know that I take care with my writing, and try to keep my standards high. But most of this "humor" on the Internet is just plain stupid. I guess hard-core fans who follow my stuff closely would be able to spot the fake stuff, because the tone of voice is so different. But a casual fan has no way of knowing, and it bothers me that some people might believe I'd actually be capable of writing some of this stuff.

Circulating emails use usually full of s**t.

Laugh with me, it will be the best way to remember him.

I had just recommended his comedy to a friend a couple days back, what a loss. He will never be replaced. Here is the article about his death: link

Thanks for putting up some youtube videos. Now I'm spending the rest of my day watching his videos. Great.

George Carlin Dead

Postby Cashmere » Mon 23 Jun 2008, 05:31:43

Rest in peace.

Brilliant man.
Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

ouch! At least he kicked the bucket before armageddon! Still, he did say he was hoping it would start in New York while he was in LA so he could watch it on CNN as it 'rolled over'. Damn. I was hoping for at least 2 more HBO specials. What the fuck are we going to do now for laughs?

I guess we'll just have to carry the torch.

P.S. I always knew you were a Carlin fan Cashmere. :P
