The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Kingcoal', 'I') think that you have to take the alpha male vantage point. An alpha male looks for someone to follow his lead, that's all.

Brilliant plan!

Back to Lumpy's question, is there anyone here with an ecovillage looking for bodies? I mean, I have about 8 ecovillages on my list that I'll be visiting already so I'm not sure if I myself should be asking this, but it never hurts.

Lumpy, you might have better luck in the Jobs forum, or post a topic more specific to precisely what you're looking for.

I just want to note that the "Singles" topic has been covered before, apparently without much success. There are probably multiple threads.

I think a mail order bride from a country that starts going through die-off before the US does is a peak oilers best bet. ;)

i don't think it's necessary for (ladies of) the fairer sex to be Peak Oil literate. the shopping-dominant type of behavior is based on something that was temporary.

people like the guys with the big houses loaded with food & ammo are creating places of survival. not to generalize, but a nest-building instinct will lead Z ladies to Z hideouts. even i think as depicted by all the Westerns showing life in the 1800's, wasn't there always some guy (or gal) with a cabin and a creek and a horse ? those Westerns almost seem prophetic. horses, shooting, etc. - just like people here talk about.

maybe they'll even make a movie that has a line, "we don't need no stinking oil !" :)

There was a reality show on TV where families were forced into living on a homestead like something out of Little House on the Prairie. I can't remember the name of it. Almost universally, people hated the experience. I don't see any modern american woman volunteering to live a life that doesn't carry with it all of the conveniences and liesure time she's become accustomed to. She'll powerdown only when she absolutely has to.

Amen. That's my general observation as well. Although I would have written "There are extremely few..." instead of "I don't see any..." because there are some rare few.
There’s a strange irony related to this subject [oil and gas extraction] that the better you do the job at exploiting this oil and gas, the sooner it is gone.

But, for the vast majority, they will awestruck once everything goes south (even further from the present). Again, when it comes to peak oil and the big picture, the ladies really dropped the ball...

"Frontier House"

And very few of them "survived" it, either. 8O

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Nicholai', ' ')My conclusion: Don't go to Saudi Arabia and rob anybody cuz it looks like I'll be needing my right hand for quite some time into the future.

OMFG.....

ROFLMAO....

P.S. my boy's girl is PO aware, and has been for a long time.

They are out there my young friend.

However, you won't find them by being all dark, dreary, and serious.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Lumpy', 'I')'ve been thinking that there are "singles connections" online based on everything. Being Catholic, having the right "Chemistry", belonging to MENSA, etc, etc, etc ...

There should be a Peak Oil Singles Connection. Seriously ... if you are a 'true believer', 'doomer', etc, and single, you are not going to want to be with someone who is out buying a V8 guzzler because he/she got such a great price on it, right???? (i.e. 'clueless')

And of greatest interest to me are PO aware folks (like us) who have land with water, etc, but need more bodies who want to work it, and share in the fruits of the soil, and ownership of the place eventually, based on a charter agreement -- plus understand that working for $$ off-property while $$ can still be earned is important. (The more we pour into preps now, the better off we will be.)

Ideally, these would be PO aware people who are willing and able to work (both on the property and off, for as long as jobs last), but don't have the $$ to buy their own place to get started on, and don't want to wait around for the freight train that's coming to just squash them flat.

How could we go about matching up these sets of folks, do you think?

Lumpy

I love your idea and would even consider such a program for the right persons who'd be interested in helping me with my place. Here's a linky:

If someone has a place in Scandinavia that would like some extra help please let me know. I'm getting a job in Norway at the moment through a friend and I should be able to start work in Norway within the next 4 to 5 months at least. After I get settled and start to save even more money, I would be more than happy to work for someone and live on a farm etc.

I've long daydreamed of having the money to establish "Peakoilton."

You know, a town populated by a few hundred smart and civilized folks who strive to learn and earn an honest and peaceful living.

Businesses might include:

Monte's Meat Locker and Butchery

Aaron's Alpha-Bits

Savinar's Survival Shack

Ludi's Fruity Pies

Jack's Ammunition Dump

Shanny would be the weather girl. We'd have closed-circuit television of course.

So all that's left to do is pick a location...

I went on my first internet date a few weeks ago and had the second meeting this weekend just gone.

I had vowed not to talk peak oil to anyone and especially not to women I intend on dating. Anyway, I was invited to this young womans house on Saturday and I saw on her coffee table Limits to growth.

How weird and strangely exciting is that!?!.

Yes they are out there. I suggest Nicholai, that you try simply NOT looking.

Yeah, I mean, looking doom straight in the face has a way of sweeping away the romance. You can always spin a bad situation around, right? It's all a matter of attitude.
