I've never understood the parking lot ritual that people put themselves through each day. Why haven't commuters staged riots on the "right" to an easy, fast ride into work each day? To me, that's way more than a problem of expensive gas, as how can you place a value on time? Let's see, 45 min to an hour to get to work in the am, 1:15 to 1:45 to get home in the evening - this is *typical* for an exurban commuter in the Atlanta metro area. That's over 2 hours *every single day* spent trapped in a tin can...that's 10 hours each week, over 40 hours each month (so, yeah, that's like working another workweek each and every month, for no pay), and over 500 hours each year. This is insanity defined...it really is.

Yeah, the best thing about Peak Oil is the death of the automobile...and I can't frickin' wait, either. I want the price of gas to spike, baby! :-D

Yeah. I'm surprised the park-and-ride thing isn't more popular. Makes no sense the freeways jammed with a thousand people all going to the same place.
"We were standing on the edges
Of a thousand burning bridges
Sifting through the ashes every day
What we thought would never end
Now is nothing more than a memory
The way things were before
I lost my way" - OCMS

I'll agree, the scenery has improved of late.

For me however, the best thing about peak oil is the smug sense of self-satisfaction I get from waking up every day and screaming out the window "I'm right again and you freaking mouth breathers are wrong!"

I cant wait for the death of the car either.... The are convenient, but their disadvantages far outweigh their good side.

We (as a society)are polluting so much....

Because people have adapted their cars to be an extension of their home rather than purely about getting from point A to point B. They turn on the radio, listen to books on tape, yap on the cell phone, etc...

The only difference is now they are watching their gas tanks and being more mindful that miles and idle time = money.

Actually I've a new friend that I met on the bus... she's sexy, but has a boyfriend (...now). I'm starting to know another girl; I saw her picture on hi5 and thought "oh... she" (I remind seeing her on a bus). One of my best friends also met a girl in a bus.

If you are not shy ( and not a stalker too :P ); public transportation may be a way to meet candidates for a SO.

If I lived within 10 miles of work and I didnt have to be home at 5:30 each day to watch our son before my wife goes to work, I would be on a bike everyday. Its so much nicer :)

For now I will have to stick to my gas powered bike that gets 60-70 mpg

Very nice indeed! Can you run it off vegetable oil? :-D

Back to bicycles, I start a new job soon, hoping to bike the 20 kilometres there and back each day. Save a grand over a year on bus fare(prep money!) + exercise + I won't have to pay for and look stupid at a gym.
