Price Is Back To $135/bbl

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Mon 16 Jun 2008, 16:39:38

I saw the price of oil spike to almost 140 and thought, OMG it's happening! But then the price came back down to 135 and I breathed a sigh of relief. *sarcanol off* Just a week or so ago the headlines were screaming record oil prices at $135 a barrel!

I think the second most common post on peakoil.com (after "9/11 was an inside job! LOL!") is the sarcastic "Whew, oil is down to $XXX.XX, everything is fine!"

Either that or I'm stuck in a space/time Moebius loop.

They must be drilling more! I have 7 kids to feed and my Suburban needs fueling for my 60 mile commute to work, gotta get to WalMart, soccer practice, cub scouts,....they better get that price down! My way of life is non-negotiable!

Oh ....I mean I have seven bicycles, a 15 minute bike commute to work, 1 child, and a huge garden...how could I be so confused?

141 by Friday?

I think crude's gonna slide downward a little in the near future. The Fed's all done cutting rates and is hinting at raising them soon, there's more production coming online(albeit small ones). No more SPR additions for a while and big brother is starting to watch speculation more closely.Just hope this is a weak hurricane season 'cause that could change everything!
Gimme some demand destruction.

That's kinda my hunch too. We had a false breakout from the pennant this morning. I'm starting to get the feeling that the next breakout is going to be downward and it's going to be real.

It's odd that I fear a downturn in the price of oil. What happens if oil does hit below $100 over the next year. Everyone turns, breathes a sigh of relief and continues along the same path. Any discussion we may have had about PO in the public and media will be washed away and we'll have to start all over. First task will be to shed the "crazy" and "nut" stereotype.

It really depends what causes the downturn, if it comes, and how far it goes. If it's a recession, then we're "good". If it's a speculative bubble popping, FED rate hikes and new production coming online ... sigh.

Could well be. Then after all the shorts pile in, we may well see high highs. Not because of strong demand, but the supply demand situation for the dollar is getting worse daily.

The Saudis must make their summit for something. I reckon it is not for telling that they have enough oil. My bet: it's like always, price goes down a little bit and then jumps up -unless there is a deep recession in the US and maybe worldwide. And that could be bad as if in case the recession would be temporal, the discussion about PO and climate change would cease.

Let me tell you how it's going to be..... Today, Tuesday we will go
down to $129/bbl... Wednesday we will go $133/bbl.... Thursday
we will go to $124/bbl on news of a strengthening dollar and higher than expected sales from the retail sector.... Friday and we travel back down the ladder as Saudi's 1/2 a mil more comes online and takes the 85.6mbd "peak" figure from July '06 and shreds it with a 86.1mbd new ultimate "peak" in global production, the ending bell on Friday sees NYMEX crude at a mind boggling $83/bbl
and the cornucopians will be dancing in the streets as gas prices come back down to a "livable" $2.99/gl. Whew!
Of course this is all just speculation on my part..... I haven't really been paying attention to this peak oil thing.... just trolling by.

According to Airline Execs, they are long past the breaking point. Air travel will be a thing of the past pretty soon.
