The World's Largest Yard Sale

I would like to propose a thread that will document and account for the liquidation of US assets to pay for its oil debts. It will be a sad and pathetic thread, as the US sells it's grandma's heirlooms to pay for oil, but it shoud be documented.

I'll start with the following:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Gulf fund eyes purchase of US Chrysler Building

NEW YORK (AFP) — New York's Chrysler Building, a skyscraper icon, is being targeted for purchase by an oil-rich Middle East sovereign wealth fund, US media reported Thursday.

The Abu Dhabi Investment Council, an investment arm of the Gulf emirate, is in talks with a subsidiary of Prudential Financial Inc to pay 800 million dollars for a 75 percent stake in the Art Deco treasure, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.

I am sure most people would be happier to see that Middle East money go into Chrysler LLC, not the Chrysler building.

But, I can see how all kinds of trophies are open game with so much US$ being outside the country now.

I am wondering if a lot of foreign money will end up going into U.S. farmland, that is the one economic area in which the U.S. is still king of the hill. Perhaps the U.S. government should consider foreign ownership restrictions on U.S. land, just as the governments of Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island have done.
