$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SILENTTODD', 'I')t always amazes me here in So. California, whenever some old codger (somebody over 70, I'm 53) catches a heart attack they send a big honking pumper truck that maybe gets 5 mpg max with the EMT riding it!!

I've seen as many as 3 pumper trucks go to the location of a reported heart attack (I know, I asked).

Not to be factious but I hope they just let me pass on if this happens to me and save the fuel for living who'll need it. And I get the bonus of not having to face peak oil!

A lot of fire runs are for EMT backup. Sometimes someone gets stuck in a way that a bunch of people (or tools) are needed to get them out. Or you need help getting someone down a flight of stairs because they're so heavy.

I imagine that has become even more of a problem now than when I was an EMT back in the mid-80's. :roll:

I love it when you spend so much time on research before making a comment, but I'm baffled as to how your research efforts failed to notice that Rumpf Ambulance is not owned by the gubment. Can you explain?

Raise taxes-> give the money (in one form or other) to poor people who can't afford health care-> push increased fuel costs onto health care consumers.

Get it now?

Or maybe introduce a single payer health care system? They do after all deliver higher quality health care to more people at a third of the cost per patient.

Ambulance companies make money hand over fist. From time to time, bad management practices cause them to lose money. Or, they might sour a relationship with a big account. There is NO WAY the current run up in diesel prices has killed their ability to operate.

I drive an ambulance and have done so for years. They make a ton of money, you wouldn't believe it. Five bucks a gallon isn't putting a dent in anything. They're making excuses.
