An average American can now expect to live to be 78, according to new government data

US life span increases to 78

Now everyone can anticipate another year to collect and enjoy their social security retirement benefits and still more time to appreciate the wonders of the low-carbon and post-peak oil society we are in the process of creating together! :)

Every time Social Security needs more money, the life expectancy figure goes up. If Social Security couldn't pay out anything, life expectancy would be 1,000,000.
People first, then things, then dollars.
There will be enslavement, cannibalism, & zombie invasions.

Congress will just have to raise social security taxes a bit more as people live longer.
