Fark is my nice little barometer of what uninformed people of average intelligence are currently thinking. 90% of them are blaming it on speculators, oil companies, and the media. They are about to get out the pitchforks and torches. 5% are blaming it on China and India and about 5% actually have a real clue. At least they are not in denial anymore.

Unfortunately nearly all these posters are about 5 years behind the curve, and they don't have another 5 to catch up.

Ever hear that Merle Haggard song "Rainbow Stew"?

Sort of the 1970s equivalent to the belief that hydrogen will save us.

Yes, I agree; people may be in the anger stage, but I wouldn't try to explain the real reason to them. This is simply how the emotional cycle of grief works. Just remember its different for everybody, wouldn't want to generalize things!

First, denial, they can't handle the truth yet.

Second, anger. It's easier to blame something or someone then deal with the overall sadness beneath.

Anger is a secondary emotion, with Sadness as its primary.

Finally, acceptance. Hopefully soon!

Don't you think an economic depression would would cause a buildup of crude oil. It's been my experience that the herd is almost always wrong, and if they think there is more expensive fuel coming, it probably will drop in price, just like over the last 5 years when they all though it was allways about to fall in price, they were wrong, I think they will be wrong again this time too. People have also gotten it into their heads that prices are going to keep rising and now the bernanke fed has noticed peoples inflation expectations are elevated. The FED cause all the inflation, but if people expect prices to rise after they have seen prices of everything rise, the fed is on them like a ton of bricks.

Maybe we'll get our strategic reserve refilled. :)
