Hi, I'm new to this forum (and to the whole PO world) and this is my first post.

I just wanted to share with you something which I guess you all have experienced at one time or another after you started learning about PO.

It's that feeling of "the-reality-and-weight-of-it-all" kind of thing; you know, that feeling you get once in a while when something you know just kind of comes down on you? it dawns on you that it is real, it is happening and most probably can't be avoided.
I just got back from the grocery store, and after looking at literally hundreds of products from all over the world, and the people buying stuff like there's no tomorrow; and then driving back home and being stuck in traffic, surrounded by big trucks and SUVs... I don't know.. I just got really depressed... Does this make any sense to you? do you ever feel like that? I'm sorry if I'm not making any sense, it's just that I wanted to share this with someone. (sorry for the long post too).
Anyway, thanks for listening and again, sorry for the long rant.

Welcome, cualcrees, to PO.com. Yes, we all know that feeling. :)
Please browse the various forums and first read the threads that interest you; don't forget the archives when you have time.
Feel free to ask questions if there's anything you don't understand.
Before starting a new thread, please do a search for the topic (see search button above; I find it is easiest first to use the "in the title" choice).
Also: care to share anything about yourself so we get to know you better?

Hi, cualcrees. Interesting name you chose for yourself. How did you come by that? As for the other things you said, yes we know what you mean. It's kind of hard to come to terms with. All too much.

I dont know about you "americans", but here in Mexico we don't let silly things like facts and oil depletion stoping us from doing our civic duty of buyin big trucks and wasting energy as much as we can! Go Mexico, Go Cantarell (literally, go)! :D

My name is made up of two words "cual and crees"; which is spanish for "what do you think" or "which do you think"; it just to be my email address, I thought it would be funny to say "which do you think?" whenever somebody asked me for my email... it wasn't. lol!

Headline in the San Diego Union newspaper: OIL RECORD SIGNALS DARK DAYS AHEAD. In big print at the top of the front page. My brother, who dismissed these matters not too long ago called me last week to get my input. The news is spreading fast that we are in big trouble.

My family used to laugh at me. Last week, having a birthday dinner for a relation, they asked if I was still working on my food storage and not one of them was snickering this time!

Welcome, new dude. I don't get depressed -- things come and things go -- we don't understand the universe so it is impossible to believe that I should be depressed.

i started a peak oil thread on a political board about 4 months ago. got about 10 pages of "lol, wut?" and "You forgot to mention the Illuminati in your conspiracy" posts. someone else made a peak oil thread on the same board about a week ago. this time it was at least half people who were honestly worried and the other half were the technology saves us types.

Welcome, cualcrees. No apologies for your rant necessary, many of us have had much longer ones! :)

I have felt much of what you described in your post; the panic of the early days with this knowledge has subsided for me, for the most part. I distinctly remember going to my place of work (downtown) and imagining what the area would look like with very few lights; that was after I read about the Olduvai gorge.

Do what you can, cualcrees. Build good relationships, learn all you can, teach what you've learned. It's all any of us can do.

Yea I know what you mean, as of lately with everything going down hill so fast its giving me a head rush at times. I try to keep a clear head and take steps that insure my family will survive, however the scale of the problem dwarfs anything in recent history.
I guess we can all be glad to be a part of a major historical event :)

We are at a very crucial point, if we make the right choices we will better the world, if we make the wrong choices we will have to live with the choices and witness the greatest die-off, global climate change, collapse of society, wars, etc of all time....

The scale of the problem we are facing is on an unimaginable scale, many think we are doomers, however when you look at the facts, its hard to see a rosy path.
Over shoot, is probably one of the scariest aspects of the problem.
Without oil, the world wide population will be cut down to about 25% of what it is today.

Notice how world population has followed oil production.... thats because oil powered farm equipment, fertilizers, pesticides, ::insert other things that help increase food production:: are all dependent on cheap oil. Without it our food production drops, and the likely hood of the population following is pretty good.
