Back to this again. Geez, what has made you so fearful?

Living in Echo Park and working in South Central for the last couple of years. Learning about peak oil. Anticipating a dieoff.

You do the math. If you're not afraid, you should be.

TT,

Outstanding job of self-sufficiency. I am looking forward to a setup like yours. Well done.

I hardly have 30 days of water, 90 days of food, 90 days of cooking fuel, and not much else to speak of.

At least I've put some distance between me and the hood, which was a huge upgrade for me.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Troyboy1208', 'o')h wow...I think I hear OF2 coming along to calm us all down.

With all recently incoming news OF2 is increasinghly looking like an idiot.
No offense meant for him here, but it is so funny when all his argumentation is being disassembled by reality.

He is just like a guy who is stubornly betting all his money on a horse, which is coming last.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'T')his is just another example that the government is not here to help you. We're all, each of us, on our own.

A couple years ago, I started calling the various government officials who were supposed to represent my interests in the government. I started with my city councilman, state legislative representative, the mayor's office, my HR representative, my Senator, the governor's office, the DOE, and a couple other random government officials.

Only the guy at the DOE admitted even knowing about peak oil and he told me that there is no plan to deal with the issue, they are simply tracking its progress.

I spoke with the Deputy Mayor of Energy for Los Angeles, and she told me she'd never heard of peak oil and that she figures I should plan on taking the bus. Second largest city in America, and the Deputy Mayor of Energy kind of laughed when I brought it up.

That's part of the reason for my doomerosity.

There's a guy on glocktalk who was part of the emergency management team for LA, and he told me that LA has lots of communications equipment, that they are fully prepared to broadcast in the event of an emergency, but there are no stores of ANYTHING that can be used to help anyone. The cupboard is bare.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that the government has no supplies on hand to help the citizens. Does this really come as a shocker to any of you?

How much food do you have stored up? Three days' worth, or is it all in your freezer? How would you cook it if you had to, and what fuel would you use to cook with? Where is your water? How many days' worth do you have? Do you have cans of gas handy to fuel up your vehicle, and what range does that offer you? And where would you go?

We are, each of us, on our own. The cavalry is not going to ride over the hill to do anything other than take whatever you have left.

They're probably just thinking that they want to raise a little money and there's all this grain sitting around collecting dust, they can dump it at the high prices you can get for grain today so they can pay five minutes' worth of interest on some bond issue to get their credit rating raised up for a little while.

It's really the same thing as a bankrupt homeowner ripping out the copper pipes and selling them to pay the mortgage one more month. What's that process called again?

If this makes you crap your pants, wait til the jails become too expensive to run and the doors open on a hundred thousand child molesters, a couple hundred thousand Crips and Bloods, and a couple million illegal aliens. That's gonna be fun, too.

And you guys realize that the price of gas isn't even really that bad yet. Act I, the curtain opens on a mid-sized city in America.

Excellent post. Well said. This is exactly how I feel.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TT', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'H')ow much food do you have stored up?

About 3 years worth plus extensive vegetable gardens, chickens for eggs and meat, sheep for meat.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'o')r is it all in your freezer?

Nope, but freezer is no problem with solar power.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', '
')How would you cook it if you had to, and what fuel would you use to cook with?

I'd cook it on our wood fired stove. We have about 5 years wood cut and stored with an almost endless supply further available.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'W')here is your water? How many days' worth do you have?

In the bore being sucked out by a windmill as I write. Also in rain storage tanks. How many days? Let's see - 50,000 gallons of rainwater stored - a further 500 gallons a day being pumped up. That's lots and lots of days.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'D')o you have cans of gas handy to fuel up your vehicle, and what range does that offer you?
Have a car that is on LPG and petrol, some petrol stored in cans. Also a diesel vehicle with some fuel stored. Have a small 100cc scooter, an electric scooter and an electric bike.
That'll do for now.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'A')nd where would you go?
Going nowhere. This is the best place to be.
We are in a similar situation. Add in our defensive and hunting guns and a bunch of ammo plus we have a hand pump to put on our well if it comes to that.

However the time is approaching rapidly when we decamp to work overseas so it is being sold off piecemeal. House and land has been for sale since February and someone could have bought a completely stocked home complete with garden planted, animals, fenced fields. Heck we even have an extra woodstove still in the crate. But not even a single sign of interest.

sound and fury signifying nothing

farmer harvested his winter wheat in the fields to my south last week, corn growing everywhere, thousands and thousands of acres of peanuts, peaches and pecans growing everywhere. I drive by a couple hundred head of beef cattle whenever I go to town. Food scarcity will not be a problem in this country for quite some time.

your ability to buy said food in the future, is a different matter.
Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave

Update from Sam's Club. We go usually once every 1-2 months mostly for office supplies, but I have purchased bulk flour, sugar which are stored (see The End Times Report site for storage tips). I saw lots of rice and neither my husband nor I saw any "shortage signs". No long lines or apparent excitement at this time. I'm sure the day will come... Usually once a week I buy butter from the amish so I can can it, obviously they seemed unconcerned.

Yeah, wheat harvest begins soon, and works it's way north. From what I've heard, this looks like a good crop year so far. (No farmer nor ex-farmer EVER makes an unqualified statement about the future.) the problem with no emergency reserve is not in a good harvest year, it's when you have a BAD harvest year.

Yeah, this year we may be perfectly fine. How much you want to bet on the next 5 years' harvests being good also? By then, the population is projected to grow. How long do we want to keep our neck stuck out with no reserves?

Hey, isn't much of the farmland around you flooded right now? I though you were from southern Indiana? I am central and it looks like the corn crop took a major hit already and the rivers won't crest for a couple of days.

What?

They did an excellent job of preparing for power down.
The leaders have succeeded in eliminating all means of support for their bloated population just in time

(Plan is to eliminate people, right?)
nothing is accidental.
Be ready...
