survival food...on sale?

Unread postby SinisterBlueCat » Sun 01 Jun 2008, 23:56:08

i am just curious on something here and thought you all might be able to set me straight...

obviously, or supposedly, i am not sure which one... the world as we know it is quickly coming to an end, and food is growing scarce and expensive. but then, why are the these three survival food websites selling their stuff on discount?

http://survivalacres.com

this guy goes on and on in his blog about the coming armegeddon, and how difficult it is process his overwhelming survival food orders, please be patient, etc. and yet, he is still offering stuff 'discounted.' He even talks about how he is almost ready to get out of this business after so many years because the demand on him is just to great...

one would assume then if demand was so huge, he would be able to set his prices higher, yes? no?

http://www.nitro-pak.com/

from their homepage
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')ue to EXTREMELY high customer demand and market volatility, our order processing time for most orders is currently taking 10-18 business days to ship. Orders with food or food units will take longer. Some food items may temporarily be backordered. Thanks for your patience!

and yet just below the above quote they list their ON SALE items, plus plenty of other food items thoughout their site are listed as on sale as well.

eh?

www.beprepared

not quite as alarmist of a website as the above two, but they still talk about becoming prepared, and yet they too are offering stuff 'on sale'

so what gives?

i have been visiting beprepared for years, and their superpails are pretty much always sold out at this time of year. preparing for hurricane season maybe?

but the point is, if you look at their other stuff...they are offering it on sale.

I too have been purchasing from BP for years...

I have never seen the superpails out of stock for weeks on end.

My local supplier told me last week that his three major suppliers will not take more orders until fall this year.

MREDepot - has jacked their costs by more than 20% since the front end of the year.

Maybe the "discounts" are focused on getting the old stock out.

Truth is - food is going much much higher.

so are you saying all those fine folk running them survival food sites are humanitarian and are doing us a favor then by selling on discount?

because if demand for their stuff were indeed so high, you would think they could sell old stock for new at the new higher price

Don't know what their intentions are, but again - "discount" select items does not mean all's well.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')ear Valued Customers:

We regret to inform you Oregon Freeze Dry cannot satisfy all Mountain House #10 can orders and we have removed #10 cans from our website temporarily. The reason for this is sales of #10 cans have continued to increase. OFD is allocating as much production capacity as possible to this market segment, but we must maintain capacity for our other market segments as well.

Mountain House current specials

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')e want to clarify inaccurate information we’ve seen on the Internet. This situation is not due to sales to the government domestically or in Iraq. We do sell products to this market, but we also sell other market segments, including Ingredients and Private Label markets. The reason for this decision is solely due to an unprecedented sales spike in #10 cans sales.

Yep - unprecedented is a good word to use.

Somehow I think that particular word is going to get alot more play in the very near future.

there are no food shortages in the us. fresh, or panic food. sorry roccman.

these are links provided by mountain house...while MH may be "out of stock" their online dealers are not. in fact, not only are their online dealers not out of stock...they are offering discounts.

http://www.thereadystore.com/freezedrie ... Ggod8mY0hg

i like this one...

http://www.ldpcampingfoods.com/MountainHouseCans.htm

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')s I'm sure many of you already know, Mountain House can't keep up with the increase in sales of cans seen this year. As a result, we must warn you that any orders for Mountain House cans are very likely to see a delay in shipping of at least a month, and probably several months. We're still taking orders, but please don't pay with PayPal

<snip>

Don't forget about the discount!
Free shipping on Mountain House cans.

uhoh, back to beprepared

http://beprepared.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_FN%20E210
IN FN E210 - MOUNTAIN HOUSE® Freeze Dried Poultry Combo (6-#10 cans)
Our Price >> [s]$159.85[/s] $147.95

i agree that food prices are on the rise, but i do not see starvation coming to the doorstep of all american homes in the very near future.

Agreed.

Good thing food is so damn cheap.

Many now have an opportunity to take advantage of this blue light special.

"all" of anything is really quite a stretch...

"most" is a good word.

Well - I tend to walk away from fights...ya know...live another day thingy.

But I will say - the blue light special will not last long on select items...

Superpails - well - they are a thing of the past for the poor and middleclass.

Ramen will do well in the up and coming months.

And you don't read much do you...?

May want to check out this thread that speaks to the utter and complete collapse of the retail industry.

BTW going out to eat is a complete and utter waste of money and resources, but you knew that anyway...huh?

My guess is that as our "stimulus" checks get spent these resturant chains will have one last hoorah before they lock the doors.

I did not qual for a "stimulus" check - did you ?

BTW I bought 13 super pails 3 years ago for a little less than $450 delivered.

I have made over 500% on metal investments.

Sold my second home in July 05 for a shit load more than I paid for it...

Work in the oil and gas/electrical field making over 6 figs a year...

And the hits keep coming.

Naw...you SBC can call me Prophet Rocc.

Cheers.
