I am very new to the peakoil concept and community. I am still in first steps of figuring this all out and planning, and hopefully I am not to late. This is the headline currently on MSNBC.com. Titled "The Coming Energy Wars" here is a link to the article. http://www.newsweek.com/id/139395/

Welcome to the site.

You will find that the mainstream media is about 5-10 years behind on the peak oil story.

Read the archives here and you will get a brain-full.

Enjoy.

Welcome to the End of the World? You've joined the happiest bunch of people on the planet.

In all seriousness, Running out of oil is pretty dangerous, but to actually go to war? I've been on this site for a good while now and never have I considered war an option.

Yes some people will cite Iraq, but I rather feel that was an excercise in protecting the US dollar than solely an issue about securing oil as a commodity.

I just get the feeling that if War is on the cards then things will have to get so bad for it to happen but Joe Public will say "Screw you" to The Powers That Be (TPTB). I think the the greater populous will be more concerned with where the next meal is coming from, than fighting for the sham that Capitalism and the Global Markets have had us blinkered to all these years.

A few stories and manufactured events, and the public will be roaring for the blood of the next oil field, er, I mean Terrorist Nation to be taken by any means or cost necessary.

Goering's observation about the ease of rousing a public to war remain true.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')astly, Iranians havent attacked anyone in some 300 years.

Reeally? I was pretty sure they would have had to launch an attack at some point during the 10 year Iran/Iraq war.

I don't buy it. Yeh sure you'll get a lot of Yank hicks rattling their shotguns in disgust, but when push comes to shove, people just wont be bothered. I think the cock-up known as Iraq served to raise public awareness over issues of a nation going to war. As far as the UK goes, if the US want to invad...I mean liberate a people again under the banner of Democracy, (And which F***wit thought bringing adversarial democracy to a warring nation would work) then I think you're on your own.

Cute, uNkNowN ElEmEnt,

I am assuming a degree of deliberate obtuseness on your behalf.

Yes I am certain that Iran did indeed carry out an attack or several hundred during the Iran/Iraq war. But to suggest it in the way you did would be to distract from the fact the war was started by Iraq. Iraq was receiving money and support by a large chunk of Arab and Sunni states. The know goals of the initial outbreak of war was the complete removal of revolutionary government, the seizure of areas of mainland Iran and the transfer of several islands to the non combatant but monetarily supportive UAE. It is fairly safe to say that the Iranian offensives were territorial in nature to begin with, regaining lost territory. The last 5-6 years of the war though saw iran conduct offensive operations with the intent to remove Saddam Hussein from power, due to crimes against Humanity and conducting offensive war. The last three years of the war would see outright support for the Iraqis by the west including the US in an attempt to stop this happening. Something the US tried twice to do themselves and succeeded in doing only 15 years later.

The aftermath of the war was a serious blow back for the arab regimes as they ended up with a bitter Iraq heavily armed with weapons their money had bought sitting on their borders but feeling betrayed over the loss of support from the other gulf states. Within three years this would see Iraq turn on their recent allies.

Face it middle eastern politics since the end of WW1 has been like the proverbial quagmire with many different angles, deceits, back room deals and interference by major powers. Trying to cutely claim that Iran acted offensively at times is pointless considering the many other offensive actions in the region.

Gazzatrone,

I too think the US would be stretched badly by any more wars. But they certainly seem to be maintaining the propoganda engines all over the place. They have constantly been preparing excuses for many wars if they need them. Specific targets are Venezuela, Iran and Nigeria. If they could figure out how to get oil out of the Sudan I'm sure they would be stoking fires there as well.

I personally find it interesting that Spain and Italy got paid off for their support for the US in Iraq with a backroom deal to ramp up Libyan oil production. Effectively gifting them access to libyan oil in return for Iraqi oil. Not a good deal it turns out.

I think it likely that non war actions will definitely proliferate in many countries. I see possible democratic governance support in Myanmar against the current government in exchange for future development opportunities. This is only restrained by the serious suport the current government gets from China in return for the same access.

Yes, they did launch an attack or two during that one. However, they didn't start that war, nor have they started *any war, in at least 300 years. Which is what the poster was referring to.
