$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('grampybone', 'T')he only faith that I have is in science.

But that's not what science is about. Science is about theories supported by robust evidence, not about belief or faith. :?

I don't understand what you are trying to say here.

Science is about finding the truth using the scientific method to unlock the mysteries of the universe. This is why I have faith in science. Science works. Religion doesn't.

You mean you find science to have the more robust explanation for the workings of the universe, compared to religion.

"Faith" to you, I take it, is definition 1. Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.

and not definition 2. Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.

I think this thread is about definition 2, personally. So it seems odd to me that someone would come into this thread and say they have "faith in science." Just a semantic problem, is all. :)

Blind Faith....Somehow the two do not go together, logicly that is. Blind-reason, or clear or more_or_less-clear faith seam more like it.

I'm proud that Buddhism states that one of the ten chains that ties us to suffering is "attachment to rites and rituals" which I translate as DOGMA. There's also "skeptical doubt", but for me it isn't blind faith in Buddhism because in the Pali Tripitaka (Buddhist sacred text), blind faith is a hindrance. Therefore it must mean something more like "confidence of being in the correct path (away from suffering)".

Question authority.
Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
Think for yourself.
Question authority.

Where there is money and power there is potential for trouble. History of organized religion is not one that any of them can be proud of. They try as hell to soften it or ignore it but it is there to be inspected by the curious minds.

Blind faith is just that , blind and it will get in trouble. How can one preach "Thy shall not kill" and then set off to war. Is there no contradiction there?

I will give Blair a bit of credit. He hardly ever spoke about religion or his beliefs while in office. Unlike Bush.
