Sure looks like an Emu!

They'll be looking for that. I understand those critters aren't cheap.

Nice stand of alfalfa Pops.

Pops, it's too bad you didn't name this thread "Something in the Corn"...you would have had the makings for a great horror flick.

Sooooo...what time is dinner & what side dish should I bring? :)

Very cool, Pops. I hope you can find the owner.

We've had peafowl show up on our place, but never emus.

I drove all over the country yesterday tying to find someone who knew someone who lost their emu.

When we first saw him way out in the field, Susan swore it was a big Tom Turkey, I said if that is a turkey, I'm getting my gun!

I was watching the Sunday shows this morning and I saw that ugly head head go bobbing by the window about 6 feet from the house; sure glad I knew what it was or I would have choked on my coffee.

We may have a barbecue if that mutt gets into the garden.

Do you have county animal control (usually through the sheriff's office)? Emus are expensive birds, I can't imagine someone not wanting it back!
Assuming anyone can catch it, of course (doubtful)! 8O

No animal control but I was going to call a couple local vets on Monday.

One guy said they were worth quite a bit at one time but not so much anymore, I don't know. I thought it might be someone's pet though and worth the effort to try and find the owner.

I haven't seen it since this morning though so it may be down the road like a...

Well, like an emu!

Here's Survivorman eating it (Ostrich Egg). They didn't get the cooking on the vid. Basically, he roasted it in some smoldering wood.

One of my kids talked me into getting her a couple of emus years ago. What I learned is that they spend all their time running back and forth along the fences looking for a way out until eventually they find one.

She says she likes to imagine a pack of feral emus wandering the hills of rural Oregon, but I suspect the cougars got them.
