Caught off guard by coworker this morning...

Whoo boy, two days in a row - I think I'll keep my mouth shut this time.

I got a mass internal email (from the architecture firm I work for) blaming $4 gas on Dubai's Ski Dome, and the sheiks' general ostentatiousness with oil wealth. Well, another email from a principal at another firm set the record straight...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')K.

First of all this is Ski Dubai which is an anchor to a mall in Dubai.

Hundreds of miles from Saudi.

There is obviously oil money indirectly involved but it is just as likely dirty Russian mob money that financed the project.

It is not why we are paying $4 a gallon. We are paying $4 a gallon for gas because our STUPID congress will not allow any form of increase in domestic production or processing. They are enjoying the benefits of $4 gasoline because of ignorance in DC. Call your congressmen.

Awesome, just sit back and be quiet, when you get into a dog fight both of the dogs realize they have an out and attack you...

Here are words in your ne repertoire you MUST learn:

1. Really?

2. Wow!

3. Oh, what ARE we going to do?

4. I hope gas prices aren't going higher this summer!

(Say the last one at the end of your breath so you can't involuntarily spew coffee or something.

The young are open minded and normally "get it".

The ol farts are still stuck back in the 50's and 60's and they "don't get it".

Being an accredited, working, registered "professional" doesn't make you immune to Kubler Ross. It has nothing to do with intelligence and everything to do with how humans deal with catastrophic bad news. Denial, anger, bargaining....how many people have we watched go through this process in years on this site. Eventually many of them will land on acceptance. I guess I personally think that's a bad thing, because I really do think this is one of those "outrun the bear" situations. I don't think there are societal solutions to peak oil, and the more people that are simultaneously trying to make the personal preparations for survival, the harder it becomes for each of us. I'd really prefer that the MSM STFU about this and let people live in their obliviousness...but that's just me.
"We were standing on the edges
Of a thousand burning bridges
Sifting through the ashes every day
What we thought would never end

I lost my way" - OCMS

Many professionals are not highly educated, just highly trained in their specialty. Smallpoxgirl is the obvious exception here...

almost all will remain oblivious, they choose to.

Remember what the captain of the Titanic did?

"Run for the boats now"?

Uh-Uh.

They actually LOCKED THE DOORS of the poor class hallwy cabins so the rich could get away.

Go watch THREADS DVD if you can find a copy.

That is what our captains will do.
The message is to get as many people as close to the cities as possible.

I am just going to tell you this. Don't fall for it.

You miss one important stage: the "blame the messenger" stage.

If you do manage to convince someone they somehow might well end up blaming you for informing them on the mess we're in.

:) Very true and very funny. After a lifetime of 'idiosyncratic' behavior my goal now is to just get along and go along. Ain't gonna be calling attention to myself. No no no.

Now about that little pink thing hanging there? My sister and I used to call it our 'doodys'. Now I know why. It looks like something inside an asshole?

Deepthroat was taken so I chose cow uvula

So, since my info is inside info, I saw smallpoxgirls cow, and since I admire her style, I turned into cow deep throat. So, everytime you see the pic, thinks of smallpoxgirls cow, this is the inside story.

I was at Walmart a couple of months ago stocking up on supplies. In the checkout line the woman behind me took notice of the large sacks, canned goods, and the 2 packs of 24 count double roll Angel Soft. She asked "what are you going to do with all that toilet paper?"
I looked her straight in the eye and told her the truth: "I'm stockpiling supplies in preparation for the coming collapse of civilization." It shut her fat face up directly.

I was at the dollar store, bought a case of spam. Same thing, a lady asked me what I was buying all the spam for, said "haven't you heard, all the foods about to run out." Her mouth dropped.

The guy at work, who believes this is all Bush's fault, is having a real meltdown. I mean he is FREAKING OUT. Every day he says something like "you haven't seen anything yet." Today he was especially agitated. (he has parked his truck and is starting the revolution, says he won't ever drive again. This has gone on long enough.)

My friend in Hawaii is also FREAKING OUT. He can't figure out how to get rid of his four houses and get off the island. He is e-mailng me that by this time next year, we will likely all be dead. Maybe this belongs in psychology.

I don't bother trying to convince people. Especially those Douche Limdough fans... don't even waste your time talking to them. Your IQ will actually drop if you listen to them for more than 2 minutes.
