Welcome, grampybone, I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do. Btw, what does "grampybone" mean?

hey virgincrude encantado:) i´m from the north, from Porto...
unfortunately i think the way u do, i´ve read several books, first about PO itself, and then about societies and biology, a lot of internet too of course... and i saddly think a collapse is inevitable... IMO we´ll face a massive extinction in which billions of people will die and i desperately hope i´m wrong...
As for this being an american forum, i also disagree that we´re that different, we have some advantages because 30 years ago Portugal and Spain were rural societies practically, and some old people still know how to do things without machines... but me myself i only practically push buttons for a living :)
we´re on the same boat as the americans wether we like it or not and when america goes down, we´ll go down with them... i also don´t think that america is to blame for what goes wrong in the world as most europeans do...
Do u think we´re that much cohese social and culturally speaking?
look at bosnia, look at the french suburbs with cars on fire, look at immigrant gettos all over europe, look at football hooliganism right here in my city and pretty much everywhere, look ate ETA in the basque country, and the Ceuta and Mellilla situation....maybe everything will be fine... i just don´t believe it

Good Morning from West Oz

Unread postby Ozrose » Sun 01 Jun 2008, 01:11:11

Good morning folks.
I am very new here and this is the first time that I have ventured to post.
I have to be honest , I had never heard of *peak oil* until a few months ago and even then , the meaning was not immediately apparent .
After a bit of inquiring and googling , I found this site.
Since then I have been doing as recommended and reading as much as I can .

I must say that the little piece attached to one member that goes from Camel to camel is very .... can't think of the word.

My grandfather was a WW1 veteran and when he immigrated to Australia , he drove a horse and cart ....
If the peak oil scenario goes , as sort of predicted ....
my grandchildren will be driving in a horse and cart

and I'm not saying that to be funny either .... my kids are aged
7 , 5 and 3 yrs old respectively .

Cheers. Ozrose. who can see a lot more reading still to come.

Thank you Cashmere , you might just have it.

I arrived here at your site after following a reference to peak oil and it's repercussions , from a fellow member of a gardening forum in Australia .
This person raised the topic of peak oil and their preparations to cope with it ... and oh my goodness .
Talk about being shot down in flames ; most likely flames of burning oil ....
and it was a real shame because this person had a seriously good intention when trying to share ... how to cope with the future ...

But it was the start of me thinking about the great **unknown**
I don't have a crystal ball , but even i can see that the wild , weird and wacky way of consumer borrowing /banks lending to book crappola up on credit ....
and lending HUGE sums of money to kids for a McMansion that they rattle around in .....

Soooooooo keep reading, just keep reading .............

This is not an oil company forum.

If you hang around here a while you may see how funny a thing that is to think.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Rosebud', 'I') never imagined I'd be attempting to post on a oil company forum!! Owning quite a bit of land that may or may not be involved with the Haynesville Shale natural gas reports we're hearing in north Louisiana has suddenly got me interested in learning more.

Oh, my! This is about as far away as you can get from being an oil company forum! :)
Welcome. You will find quite a few things here that may affect any choices you may make regarding your land.

It's like stumbling upon the Holy Grail in the woods, excusing yourself and pointing out that you are looking for a copper chalice, and then moving on as quickly as possible.

Good stuff Mate, don't disagree at all.

But I thought one wasn't supposed to pronounce "Checkmate" until all the possible moves had been analyzed and eliminated.

I'm not there yet but welcome nonetheless.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Drifter', 'I') have to admit, I got a chuckle out of your post, especially this part:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cashmere', 'P')olar bears. The new poster child for granola eating, berkinstock wearing douchebags who drive their Priuses to Starbucks every day where they spend an hour drinking a 5 dollar coffee and surfing on the Net through the wi-fi hot spot with their Apple Itard computer.
Again, I am not disagreeing with what you said. No truer words have been spoken. But don't forget, most of these people here are new and trying to learn about peak oil. Let's not sugar coat things, but let's not scare them off, either.

Cashmere, I eat granola, wear socks in sandals, and DH is thinking of getting a prius, or some really small energy efficient vehicle. I've spent lots of times having coffee, shooting the breeze with other hippies. You seem gratuitously cruel, in a world that is going to place a premium on gentle kindness. Your world view is one that has to be defeated, more than anything else.

If the douchebag fits, threadbare . . .

I'm not gratuitously cruel. I'm gratuitously honest.
