I was aware of the "Gulf of Tonkin" and other faked up reasons for going to war (applys to most wars the US has been involved in).

I have not read the book, but it seems clear to me that the Bushies were praying for some incident that would give them popular support for their imperialist agenda.

They were probably not expecting something of the magnitude of 9/11, but when it happened they were ready, they "ran with it", they immediately rolled out their plans to invade Iraq, Iran, Syria (which had nothing to do wih 9/11) while the WTC was still smouldering.

Yeah, Michael Moore's film was also - the problem was the same as this book - he only used the documents from one side of the issue.
