It is always a good time to start a family. In the post peak oil world, you will need many hands to work the land, drive off zombies, and do menial tasks. And besides many extremists will castrate themselves, and you will have lots of work to do in this category as well.

Well I am having a child in a couple of months so for me it is a bit late to second guess.

I think this probably is not the best of times to have a child (to put it mildly).

But then again when is? My mother made her first steps on the courtyard of a Japanese internment camp.

Our generation (in the west at least) is one of the few generations that has been able to grow up in relative peace and tranquility. Looking at history that is an exception, not the norm, although we might perceive it that way.

At least we have a guarantee that there are rough times ahead. That is something my grandpa never had.
