RVs are dead and waiting to be buried.

Unless you need a cozy bug out shelter for a very reasonable price.

I think the plan of retiring, buying a travel trailer, and spending the rest of your years touring the US is done.

People can't afford a 3-day vacation much less 3 years of traveling even if you are only traveling every other weeek.

when the long march begins to the warmer climates in the south, an rv with a full tank might get you to a place where you wont freeze and have to sleep in a tent. the old mobile surviving.

just a thought.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Drifter', 'I') guess RV's could be used as immobile homes in the future.

RVs are becoming the modern equivalent of gypsy wagons.

Gypsy wagons, or dinosaurs. I kinda liken them to dinosaurs staggering around after the massive comet hit the planet. Dust blocks out the sun and everything starts to slowly starve and die off. We'll unearth these things someday and marvel at the profligate energy consumption we enjoyed for a few years. We wont be able to believe that people lived this way, so out of touch with the boundaries nature has set for us.

You could rip out the interior and convert it into a little goat barn or a large chicken coop.

Either that or a place for the in-laws to stay when they emigrate to your homestead.

I wish I had kept a tally of how many I have seen for sale in years past because it seems as if there are a lot more along the road this spring than anytime I can remember but without good records who knows if I am just noticing it more or if my perception is just altered because of economic events?

One could build an electric RV with PVPs for a roof.

I saw some PV panels applied to Camping trailers on the Airstream site. Done for the purpose of camping without an electric hookup, and using 2 Trojan 6volt batteries for minimal power needs, like lights and radio, maybe a tiny fridge.

Might be okay for the inlaws, as posted above.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('BigTex', 'U')nless you need a cozy bug out shelter for a very reasonable price.

My thoughts exactly as I was trying to fall asleep last night.
If I can get some property in a rural area, I could then get a cheap RV in a few years to put on said property as a shelter.

There is a little book called "Travel Trailer Homesteading for Under $5,000." It's a fun read and interesting to see the fellow set his place up totally off grid in Colorado on a small budget.

The new plan will be to buy a travel trailer and spend the rest of your life touring Walmart parking lots until you get kicked out.

Also an excellent way to squat! Until the owner of that land gathers up enough gas money to chase you off his land :)

This is reminscent of the oil crisis back in 1980. I worked with GM then, they were thinking of closing the Downtown Detroit plant on Piquette Ave., which made cube van type chassis and most went to Winnebago. A one point, in mid 1979, they were making 24 an hour of these on two shifts. In mid 1980 they were down to just 8 an hour an one shift.

But, the tide turned. I don't think it will turn back so quickly this time around.

RVs, campers, boats, and jet skis consume gas with the primary objective of recreation. As the oney dries up and fuel prices climb, we can expect these items to decline in value due to an increase in the number being sold in order to pay the bills.

RVs and campers are handy things to have around. I picked one up 3 years ago for $3k, 22' looks like this Image
mostly decent shape. It has served as temp housing when I'm out of town on a job, guest house when someone has too much to drink, storage, and I lived in the thing for a year after the tree fell on my house.

The year in the thing gave me a glimpse of life with limited power, heat, water, systems, space. Although there were hardships, I can get by easily with 15 amps of electricity, considerably less if I have a woodstove. The educational value received far exceeds the cost of the thing. It has many years of service left.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--for ever."
