Thanks guys! Well I guess I better dig another ditch er "garden" to grow more rabbit food. 3 weeks ago I was about to fall in the garden plot and just say goodbye cruel world.....but now I have the cutest little green peppers sprouting out :) Question, how much (?) bleach do you add to 1 liter of water for safe drinking?

About a 1/8 teaspoon per gallon of clear water and 1/4 for cloudy. You can run water through cloth and other makeshift filters (like grass in a pipe, or wood coals inside a pipe, downspout or log before treating it). Make sure you use unscented bleach. Do your research on these things though. Very important question.

What funny words.

Any American who blames the "government" for our problems needs to get his or her head checked.
If you're running a business raising prices is NEVER popular with the customers.
If you're running a huge multi-billionaire dollar operation the LAST thing you want is to end up like an oil company.....with the public directing their anger at you. Directing blame is starting to become pretty popular these days. It takes the heat off your shoulders. Dow is not stupid. They know the truth......Uncle Sam has no more power than a toothless neutered dog.

Then again there are people out there who truly believe government had the power to "do something". Now those folks are really clueless.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('joeltrout', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('frankthetank', 'T')his shouldn't be a surprise to any of us.

That is what cracks me up. Some people here have been studying peak oil and discussing it for years.

Why are they surprised??? And why did they not invest in oil and profit off of the run-up over the last several years???

It makes no sense except for the fact that people don't really believe in peak oil but more or less fantasize about it.

The problem isn't so much that many of us have been studying peak oil "for years" are surprised. Rather, IMHO, it's the speed of which things are happening now. We all have heard from the doomers on this site who predicted apocalyptic collapse. I remember several doomers who predicted war with Iran a couple of years ago. Still, the speed is just breathtaking.

That is what makes me nervous. OTOH that is what also encourages me to invest in oil.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('frankthetank', 'T')his shouldn't be a surprise to any of us. Of course the cost of $130 oil was going to be passed along at some point. Get ready for a jump in about everything you buy.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')ow is the world's largest producer of plastics, including polystyrene, polyurethanes, polyethylene, polypropylene, and synthetic rubbers. It is also a major producer of the chemicals calcium chloride, ethylene oxide, and various acrylates, surfactants, and cellulose resins. It produces many agricultural chemicals, perhaps being most famous for its pesticide Lorsban.[7] Its most well-known consumer products include Styrofoam brand insulation. Former Dow product lines, Saran wrap, Ziploc bags and Scrubbing Bubbles have been sold to S. C. Johnson & Son.

Just so long as JD isn't affected we're OK.

How many of those will we be making with wind turbines? :x

I heard that if you are close to running out of gas in your car, you can open your gas cap and filler door and if you go fast enough you can fill up your tank with wind power.

I heard you can do the same thing with solar power by just leaving your car out in the sun with the gas cap off and the filler door open.

I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY ROCKS!!!

If they begin to stop their subsidies on oil then it might not be so far fetched.

things are happening much too fast for my taste joel. The quality and quantity of PO news keeps increasing and now inflation is finally started in earnest. I am not ready yet.

I think one can never be truly ready for a great disaster - whether that be a natural disaster, or a man-made one.

The mind is the most important weapon. I think you, Pstarr, like I, have the necessary attributes to make it. And, perhaps, even to prosper.

Actually the companies are only passig just half of the increase in their costs, and you must also assume their costs may not reflect the current price of energy.

In other words, it takes a long time for the price of oil to work from the wholesale to retail level for produced goods and even services.

Due to the acceleration upward in the price of energy, price increases will become greater over time, making their effects all the more of a problem over time.

China is having their fair share of crises, not sure how earthquakes and aftershocks equate to finance but if what happened to them over the past couple weeks happened in the US, we’d be fuct financially (although the number of unsold homes in CA would drop dramatically…)

On-Topic: Dow increasing price will increase price in nearly everything at Wal-Mart. If this isn’t a Canary, I don’t know what is.

That is so sweet of you to say Jack... It may be the sweetest thing I've heard you say :) You're not going soft are you?

Now I can confirm my suspicion about Jack. He may be a hardened-to-the-core fundamentalist utilitarian uber-doomer but he is (probably) not a sociopath :)
