$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'W')hat I'm getting at is, many middle class ppl are failing off a cliff right now while the wealthy are spending like mad on themselves without a care or concern about what's happening below them. I mean $25,000 for a playground in your backyard for two little kids? or a $300,000 garage, but wait, we need another one. Or that $80,000 boat, the $80,000 sport car, the $100,000 theater room. Christ, it never ends. At least they could invite me over for a pool party.

Yeah, I know. And how can one not be jealous of those folks??

I would just love to see a popular "anti-rich" movement here in the states...those folks may still be rich, but I want them to suffer the scorn of a resentful, angry public...make 'em sweat a little every time they venture from their fortresses.

Or better yet, let all the rich do the John Galt thing and go live in their own little private enclave with all their rich friends and buddies, and trade gold bars among themselves. That'd suit me just fine, as we don't need them, just as they don't need us.

It won't work that way. The wealthy will send John (hard to remember the fellow's real name. We shall call you John while you remain in our employ) on his little, broken down scooter. John (who needs his job) will do it, buy the food, and bring it back.

The merely affluent will get the part-time maid to do the same thing...

As for me, I would adopt appropriate camouflage. A gimmie cap, a T-shirt, old jeans, and work boots. Over that, I would wear some sort of long-sleeved work shirt, unbuttoned. Sunglasses, of course. A pistol concealed somewhere. Another pistol somewhere else. I'd buy an old pickup, put some lumber, cans of paint, and a few other bits of distraction in the back.

Then off I'd go. Ranting about those rich devils every chance I got.

Maybe I'd even set up a delivery service...for the right price. All cash, of course. No checks, no credit cards, no paper.

Might not be such a bad idea...if one does have money in a poverty-stricken world, going camo is clearly the smart way to go. Best thing for anyone to do is to blend in with the others...do not ever stand out from the crowd...hehe.

As for the rich staying at home behind 10-foot concrete walls with barbed wire on top, while they let their little pet servants run their errands for them, I can see the kids of those families constantly asking, "Mommy, why can't I ever leave the house? Why can't I go to the store like my friends do? Why can't I ever DO anything?" And Mommy and Daddy will say to them: "Son, I know you feel trapped in this house, but just think how good you have it compared to all those poor slobs out there. Better count your blessings, son, you just don't know how good you have it."

I don't know about you, but that's no way I'd want my kid to have to live, rich or not.

The poor actuallynwill have it much better, they starve to death

that is a rather painless way to go

the ritch will vomit blood and bowel for three weeks and die a fearful death.
better to be poor.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Jack', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'A')fter all, it ain't their problem. How long will this kind of behavior continue?

As long as people exist. If you have not read Diamond's book, Collapse, you might find it of interest.

Easter Island and the Norse Greenland colony each had a wealthy class. And, in each instance, those classes persisted to the end.

Not to worry, Vision-master - we in the first world should do far better than the rest of the world.

western US will have some areas near the coast that are survivable. northern Russia siberia will have srvivors.
China will not have anything at all left on it, they get the smoke from europe and the rads will be enourmous.

I don't "hate" the rich...I HATE the rich.

Wanna know why? The rich, at least most of the ones I've known in my lifetime, are greedy, selfish, have unhappy lives despite being able to have anything they want, and are just all-around not very nice people to have in this world. And to be brutally honest, why should some people have so much more than others, just because they were lucky enough born with a silver spoon in their mouth? And don't give me that "working hard" bullsh*t...that's worse than the Soviet-era propaganda Pravda use to spout about the glory of the Motherland.

The world would be a far, far better place if there were no rich people at all...that's my belief, and I'm sticking to it.

Me? bc they only think of their own greedy wants. Things where more equal back in the 50's and 60's. More of a classless society. Now it seems like the rich are pushing things way to far. The disparity has grown. Our society is becoming more of a small group of wealthy haves and the rest are becoming have-nots. Not good for the Country! You can't see it bc you ain't experienced it.

I just had to send my brother some money. He's 50 years old and in poor shape, lives in an area where any kind of work is difficult in the best of times and things are now shutting down (no fricken work). He has $.50 to his name right now.

Please allow me to add this to the discussion as well:

Back in the 1930's, there was a man named Huey Long, who also despited the rich with a passion, and made it his life's goal to redistribute the wealth of this nation. And no, he was NOT a communist, his reasoning was that we'd better take care of the people before America had a Soviet-style revolution.

He wrote a song, as well, called "Every Man A King", and the lyrics are as follows:

Why weep or slumber America
Land of brave and true
With castles and clothing and food for all
All belongs to you.

Ev'ry man a king, ev'ry man a king,
For you can be a millionaire.
But there's something belonging to others
There's enough for all people to share.
When it's sunny June and December too
Or in the winter time or spring
There'll be peace without end
Ev'ry neighbor a friend,
With ev'ry man a king.

Perhaps one day, America will be fortunate enough to have another Huey Long come along...he'd better be wearing a bulletproof vest this time around...hehe.
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide...

Yup it's becoming the "haves" and the "have-nots" is this any surprise? And of course it's going to get much worse.

So which would you rather be?

Act accordingly!

People who don't believe in peak oil are still going to die.

Jealousy.

Offer them the chance, and everyone would take it. Every single one.

Oh, they'd feel frightfully guilty; so they would make a point of giving $10 to some charity or other, once annually.

That's a funny image. Liquid nitrogen and a baseball bat would work quite well too, I imagine. Then you could run over the pieces with a steam roller, and abracadabra... you have camel-flvored dipping dots that will get you into heaven.

You got that right, at least in my case. I kick myself in the ass everyday for not being born rich. I'd do anything to be wealthy.

However, I would not give a dime to charities and I would feel no guilt whatsoever. You are not the only one around here who lacks a conscience, my friend.

Hell yeah. Those crybaby sensitive "end world hunger" types don't know what they're missing. It feels so good not to care or better yet be amused by the suffering of others. Empathy and kindness are both a royal pain in the ass.

Re: Question for wealthy ppl

Unread postby Denny » Wed 28 May 2008, 00:55:35

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'W')hat gets me is, these ppl tend to think they are good Christians.

Let us say a good Christian gives 10% of his income to charities, and does what he can to help others in his family, etc., with his time and or money as they need it. And, contributes a lot of his time for the parish or congregation. Is he not entitled thereafter to enjoy the fruits of his efforts? Should he carry around a sense of guilt for what he has?

I am asking this, not so much from the standpoint of criticiizing your statement, but to get other Christians perspective. I know Jesus counseled the rich man, that in order to serve Jesus more perfectly, to sell all he had and give his life over. And, the famous verse that its easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than it is for rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. But, not even priests and ministers, for the most part, give up all their material possessions, and in fact, in real terms, many could even be considered to be rich.

I know of a Catholic priest who actually owns 11 rental properties. I think most would consider him to be rich, but he does not think of himself that way. (He feels himself burdened by the investments and gets ticked off with deadbeat tenants and having to deal with lawyers to sue people.)

Lets face it, if all the rich gave all their money away, would it not result in just everybody being poor, maybe a bit better off, temporarily, but still poor? And, just where would investment money come from for new technologies, energy exploration and replacement of outmoded facilities and equipment?
