Question From A New User

Unread postby Hillbilly » Mon 26 May 2008, 20:07:53

I found this site from an article in yesterday's newspaper and I have spent this entire day here. I must have read hundreds of posts but there is one scenario that I really didn't see addressed. The general consensus seems to be that oil demand has exceeded supply and the question is how to cope with the situation. I have found all sorts of opinions on that subject but I think there are far more dire consequences than that. As supply continues to decline and economies and governments approach collapse, it appears to me that there is going to be a tremendous, global struggle to secure that oil. Global warfare? Annihilation? I would love to see your comments.

I suggest for you and all the new members to lurk for a few weeks, searching and reading old threads, almost every scenario imaginable, possible, and probable have been discussed.

A good place to start is the Best of Montequest in the peakoil discussion forum.

Umm, take a moment to consider Iraq. What do you think that is about?

Global warfare, yes, annihilation...wouldn't it be nice if it was that easy...LOL.

Anyhow, here's a some advice for ya: Load up on the popcorn and lots of butter, kick back and enjoy the picture show. :-D

BTW, welcome to peakoil.com. And keep reading, it's all there, believe me.

Welcome to PeakOil.com, Hillbilly. You probably don't know that the very same media outlets through which you found PO.com have until now called us, and PO, nuts. Total disrespect. Now that PO can no longer be obfuscated, they are using us as a resource. Never, EVER, let anyone convince you that PO is not real. And, don't just depend on this site as your only resource on the topic. Search in Google. You will find plenty of naysayers. But you will also find the evidence that PO is indeed real and is upon us NOW.

If you are new to the subject, what you find will possess and obsess you for a time and you will drive your peeps crazy talking about it. Don't waste your time. Quietly make your own preparations and prepare for all those you care about even if they think you're nuts. They'll thank you for it later.

And, as Byron100 says, get some popcorn because it's going to be an interesting show from here on out.

I really must think that all those folks who talk about popcorn are talking about the stuff they have in the store room to grind into cornmeal if they need.

If they aren't, I'd be leery of the tune they are whistling past their grave.

Look here for others' comments, assessments and whatall:

I had the exact same thought, LOL.

I'm actually a little frightened that he couldn't find global military megadeath on peakoil.com.

That's like not being able to find fat people in the drive through line of an Atlanta Burger King. :?

Tyler,
That reminds me. A small group of us went to Red Robin the other day. $10.00 for a garden burger btw. I won't be doing that again any time soon.
Anyhow, we noticed almost every person in there was obese. I haven't been there for a few years and back then this had never occurred to me. It was quite amazing. Table after table of blubber. Fat people wallowing in and out. It was like a scene from a sci-fi movie.

The adults with us weren't fat at all, and one of the kids with us commented, 'hey, look!! Everyone in here is really fat!'. I quietly told him he was right but to please, at least while we're in here, Shut Your Trap About Fat People. We're outnumbered 50 to 1.

And there were what, 5 other people there?

I've been to a pizza/arcade/smorgy place like that.

It is worse than watching Mad Max/Soylent Green/Body Snatchers all at one time after a few hits of 4/way Windowpane.

You guys are pretty tough on newbys huh? Just wanted to say thanks for the links. Just for the record, I'm a born again Christian so I'll put my faith in God rather than a bunch of self-proclaimed prophets and you won't be receiving any more posts from me. Maybe just one piece of advice; Take a look at the Amish lifestyle. You may actually learn something other than sitting in front of a monitor and posting drivel on the i-net for four years or whatever.

Hillbilly, welcome to the site.

I hope you hang around a little longer.

Spend a little more time reviewing the archives and you will probably find more helpful guidance regarding your questions.

I wouldn't read anyone here as a self-proclaimed prophet. We all have theories based upon our understanding of the issue, but I think most of us are humble enough to admit that the future will unfold without consulting any of us first.

Best of luck my friend.
