I think this is a more appropriate forum for this thread, though it may go to the Hall or to the trash soon.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.

I would suggest that you either post something relevant to the topic(s) being discussed or find somewhere else to amuse yourself.

Freedom Slave, No worries. I can be borderline insulting, or just plain insulting, at times. It does liven up the conversation, though. Doesn't it? :lol:

So let's try to do more of this--

[smilie=XXjester.gif]

and less of this-- [smilie=argue.gif]

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('tex123', 'N')EWB here. What I don't understand is why it is so hard to convince others in my daily encounters.

Welcome tex, yep I agree it's weird how little interest a lot of people show re PO, it's something that has intrigued me for a while. I started a thread on that topic last year and got some interesting responses. Possibly tho, smallpoxgirl says it in most pithy fashion:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he oil companies have us over a barrel like a crack dealer has a junkie over a barrel. No they're not helping the situation, but we've got an addiction problem of our own that is not going to be solved by blaming them.
Are there alternatives? Yes. All of them involve making do with less, and therein lies the rub. We don't want less. We want more. But less is what we're going to get. So we flail, and blame, and search for a messiah to save us.

These are threatening ideas for most people. I decided a long time ago that the most productive approach is not to try to convince others. It's better to let others start it off with the usual complaints about the price of gas, and then drop in a remark about oil being a finite resource, and how it's only gonna get scarcer. Nothing more than that, definitely no arguing or brow-beating. Let them think it's their idea! Then if anyone gets interested, you can recommend books like The Party's Over and The Long Emergency, or films like A Crude Awakening or The End of Suburbia. Much more engaging and convincing than anything you or I could come up with in a five minute conversation.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'T')hat's real catchy. Does it have axioms and corollaries?
As the rate of decline inclines the inverse of traffic is peace and quiet? or;

What can I tell you? The topic of Peak Oil makes my writing more florid than usual. :-D

Hello.

I'd say rural, arable, poor, innocuous - good place to be post peak.

Hi From Blaine WA!!!!

Unread postby revelator771 » Tue 27 May 2008, 16:40:51

I may seem like I'm coming to the party a little late, but I have been aware of Peak Oil for quite some time thanks to the scholarly work of Micheal Ruppert in his book, "Crossing the Rubicon". I have decided to post here because I am sure that I'm going to find at least a few like-minded folk here. I qualify what I say by noting that I am a very socially conservative, Evangelical Christian. Most of these kinds of forums are fairly unfriendly to conservatives and especially Christians. I have written my own blog...www.outofthepidgeon-hole.blogspot.com Most of the topics are centered around theology, and how Evangelicals are "required" to support errant concepts both in the secular, political arena and in theology. This is the case with Peak Oil. Most conservatives are sipping Jonestown koolaid with a Pollyanna view of the coming resource apocalypse.
I am curious what the range of concern here is. We are a lower middle class family. ( I have been unemployed for 9 months) We are renters. Many of the preparations needed to be made for what Kunstler called "the Long Emergency" are not easily made by folks that are just trying to get by. Especially if those folks are making contientious food choices; organics, etc. , which are significantly more expensive. We have purchased metal with the assurance that it will softland us when the paper tiger that is the stock market collapses from high food and oil prices. This will be in early to mid September by our best guess.
You see, we have been looking at Peak Oil as only one facet of a much larger problem, culturally and theologically. Of course, I won't trouble people with my eschatological premises. Those interested may Email me or check out my Blog. I will point out that we are preparing for a social armageddon of the magnitude of the fall of Rome. That initiated the Dark Ages. The world I envision will be overpopulated with undereducated, underprepared demographics that will begin to migrate to more hospital climates and find they are not welcome. At the same time, our Orwellian government will be initiating all of the well prepared executive orders that center around population management and control. This, of course, will include the infamous Rex84 program.
I chose to post now, after all these years, to share a trend that is unique to where I live, here on the border with Canada where the 2010 Winter Olympics will be. A steady increase in Homeland Security and military style aircraft have been grid flying Whatrcom County over the last year. Most recently by C-130s with listening appartus as well as Homeland Security Blackhawk helicopters. Like birthpains drawing closer together, the government has a clear idea of when the House of Cards is going to collapse. I would be interested in hearing the groups opinion. God Bless us all.

Your not late for the party, in fact it has not even begun yet. Just make sure you have enough tabacco on hand to calm yourself down once it really starts...

Welcome. Check out the thread Christian Pespectives on Peak Oil in the Psychology forum. There are other Christians there if the coyotes start knawing at your heel bone.

God bless you. It takes faith and courage to see the truth. Peak Oil, even if it is not the end times (which I believe it is) is certain to change the way Americans live forever.

Welcome Jenny. We have had quite the influx of visitors as of late. Polar bears are going to be tested along with us. I have been monitoring the situation in the Arctic and it is grim indeed. I too live in Florida. Climate change has us right in its sights from hurricanes to rising sea levels. In the environmental section of the forums is a section that discusses the dramatic changes in the Arctic. Its over 50 pages in length but well worth the time to read up on it. Lots of good sites out there with issues regarding the Arctic. Good luck here and don't get overwhelmed! You have taken the first step and admitted there is a problem...congrats on that :)

I agree saving polar bears is important.

When jackets begin running short because factories are shutting down. I will enjoy a good fur coat. Polar Bear hides make great coats. :P

Just kidding.
