$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')ell, now you will enjoy the prestige of experiencing the truly unique and unprecedented collapse of civilization; this has no real historical president. Modernist artists and writers of the 20th century, were forever looking for ways to be original. Now, thanks to modern technology and democratic values, we'll all get to be original and engineer the decline of civilization!

I suggest that member quotes be edited for basic grammar and spelling. It's embarrassing to see unnecessary mistakes broadcasted in this manner on the home page. These quotes are supposed to be examples of our finest thinking. Such errors may distract viewers and mar the message.

I agree. I hate it when I see myself quoted within a thread and to have the knowledge that I cannot go back and fix it really bothers me... well only until I fall asleep, then I don't care and by the time I wake up I don't remember.. but I'm digressing.

By all means either edit them or ask the author to edit it before it goes into the quotes section.

How can we exit a recession that “officially” hasn’t even happened. But don’t worry, the recession that hasn’t happened won’t last long.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Novus', ' ')Now prices are even higher and more producers are to becoming tight fisted with their supplies. The oil market is going the way of the rice market. Market theory is failing us and markets themselves are failing.

The new reality is the land export model. High prices = less supply. Learn it, get ready for it, live it, it is the new reality.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Drifter', 'I') keep hearing the term 'demand destruction' thrown around a lot like it's nothing. Maybe demand destruction should really be called 'economy destruction' or 'lifestyle destruction'. Demand destruction and capitalist economies don't mix well.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jdumars', ' ') Jack's words always ring true no matter how stainless surgical steel they are. I've really come to the conclusion that you can do all the preparation you want -- it's only one catastrophe away from being useless. What isn't useless is being flexible, improvisatory and good with at least one tool/weapon.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')[Boats]: a closed culture of adult-toy ownership that will disappear when oil declines. The justification--self-reliance. Catching Muskie with trolling motor attached to a boat that goes really fast so you don't waste valuable time getting to the secret hole that you found with the depth finder to catch a little piker with a carbon titanium pole and 100 yards of monofilament that strangles birds. Don't cry for me Argentina.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', 'T')he oil companies have us over a barrel like a crack dealer has a junkie over a barrel. No they're not helping the situation, but we've got an addiction problem of our own that is not going to be solved by blaming them.

Are there alternatives? Yes. All of them involve making do with less, and therein lies the rub. We don't want less. We want more. But less is what we're going to get. So we flail, and blame, and search for a messiah to save us.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('kpeavey', 'I') was at Walmart a couple of months ago stocking up on supplies. In the checkout line the woman behind me took notice of the large sacks, canned goods, and the 2 packs of 24 count double roll Angel Soft. She asked "what are you going to do with all that toilet paper?"
I looked her straight in the eye and told her the truth: "I'm stockpiling supplies in preparation for the coming collapse of civilization." It shut her fat face up directly.

Absolutely priceless...
