to move to Boise, Idaho. Wondering what your opinions are about this area.

It would bring me out of the San Francisco Bay Area with my son, and if and when TSHTF at least I wouldn't have to compete with the millions here to get out. Its going to be a lot of traffic I figure.


Here is the problem. I have never lived in any area that snowed and have no knowledge of anything but this area of California. I have been stuck here for life. I have no knowledge of farming or growing anything. Even indoor plants that you only need to water, die in my presence. (Pathetic I know) I have no knowledge of food storage although I did download the food storage pdf.

I am willing to change all of this and learn learn learn and work work work.

So any thoughts on Boise, Idaho?

Freezing is a highly overrated experience, so don't let the snow attract you too much.

Seriously, you are planning to make some big changes in your life. Maybe you should give it a trial first. Go on an extended working holiday up there first.
Secondly, have a good hard think about how you are going to cope if problems arise. i.e. heating of the home etc.

Strictly personally, I always thought a warmer climate would be easier to survive in as long as you hav eplenty of water. Things tend to grow faster and around the year.

Winter climes are not necessarily bad.

The first settlers, and the natives did quite well in harsh climates.

Idaho is a beautiful part of the continent, so I say go for it.

The worst that could happen is you fail, and decide to make a go somewhere else. Or even worse, you die in God's country. Beats getting shot by gang bangers or hungry yuppies.

It all depends on how willing you are to give up the American Dream.

If you are willing, I am sure there are many farms in Idaho that would love a hard working, and English speaking farmhand.

Lose the ego, and the consumer mentality, and you might enjoy the lifestyle of a migrant worker.

The shit hits the fan, I can think of worse places than Idaho, North Dakota, or Montana.

Here are the weather averages for Boise. This is really not weather to worry about. We live some 100 mile north of Boise and we get little snow and the winters are mild, not compared to San Francisco, but there are few places in the continental US like SF.

The climate issues will/ought to be the least of your concerns. Boise is not a paradise, socially or elsewise, but you are probably correct that the San Franciso bay area will be a real hell hole if/when things collapse. At least Boise is somewhat finite, meaning you might have a possibility of escaping if necessary. Whatever opportunity it is that enables you to move to Boise, make sure you maximize it by developing a social network as rapidly as possible. This is what will offer a chance to survive a collapse-a network of friends that you can trust and who care about you.

Thank you all for the input... Boise looks beautiful to me also. And I have thought the possibilities in this area all the way to the bitter end...

For instance, lets 'pretend' the stock market crashes, then everyone runs to the bank till that money is all gone, banks go bankrupt, people revolt!! It will be hell. I have a plan in case that happens of course, but that is if I do not get shot by someone on the way out. Loss of hope will motivate people to do CRAZY things. I know, I've been going through it for weeks now.


Hmmmm, Now the human condition I must battle inside...fear of whats coming VS fear of the unknown.
