$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'U')S light crude rose by more than two dollars to trade at $129.31 after the US oil investor, T.Boone Pickens said he expected oil prices to hit $150 a barrel later this year. Rumours from Israel denied by the White House, that president Bush is planning a military strike on Iran, added to the frenzied mood.

Those that count for this thread? Or it has to be "more official"?

Time to change the title? ...I was expecting $130 by the end of the week.

The Netherlands needs more cheap American corn. We should sue the Americans over corn prices. They burn it while we have to pay ridiculous prices!

Hmm. Maybe it would be better to build some nukes before we try that.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'Y')eah, I don't think we're using Louisiana Sweet for the official records here.

Right. NYMEX crude is the standard here.

The spot market prices give us a glimpse of the very near future, though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but during the current run-up frenzy, it seems like NYMEX lags the spot market high by just two weeks now, or even less.

In other words, look for NYMEX to be around $133 by the end of the month.

If our Congress critters are going to pass this type of bone-headed legislation at $129/bbl, what can we expect when we get to $200?

I seriously thought this was a parody story. Sad to see it is not.

I'm sorry but you have to be dreaming here. There is no way this could possibly happen so quickly. We dont even have a viable battery technology for this to occur yet.

On the contrary, we've had the battery technology since the 1990s. Thanks to Chevron, it has never been available for use in EVs.

Now, doing all of this in five years is very optimistic. It takes 17 years for the auto fleet to turn over. But, had we acted on EVs in the 1990s when they became viable, there would today be millions of them on the road in the US and this would have cut US oil consumption about 5% by itself, and it would be dropping with the increasing number of EVs added to America's roads in place of gas guzzlers.

Unfortunately, it's probably too late. You can thank our auto industry, the oil companies, and our own government for helping to stall alternatives to oil like EVs(in the case they replace gasoline cars). While the American consumers rowed themselves into shyit creek, the elite of our society decided to grab the paddle and throw it overboard. Part of that paddle was EVs. Why? They're so cheap to use o0ur GDP would drop like crazy and the top 1% who are making all of their money thanks to investing just couldn't stand that idea.

The technology we had even 15 years ago could do amazing things.

NiMH battery EVs, according to Cuyenca and Gaines, if mass produced, reach cost parity at $1.30/gallon gas, factoring in periodic pack replacement(the most expensive component).

EIA and DOE say over 40% of US oil consumption is for automobile fuel.

Do NOT ever forget or deny what could have been done. But like I said, it's probably too late. Maybe we'll get lucky and the bastards who helped stall this will bear the wrath of pissed off Americans. Unlikely, but one can dream.

toecutter does make a strong point here. if anyone is being sued it should be the car/oil companies - it would be interesting to see if a cigarette type enquiry was undertaken what we discover.

on a practical basis we should still be switching as whatever progress we make in the next few years will reduce the pain somewhat.

Oil Rises Above $130 a Barrel in New York for the First Time

By Grant Smith

May 21 (Bloomberg) -- Oil rose above $130 a barrel for the first time after at least five banks raised price forecasts in the past week on expectations supply constraints will persist.

Crude oil for July delivery gained as much as $1.21, or 0.9 percent, to $130.28 a barrel, in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It traded for $130.22 at 11:13 a.m. London time.

Oil for delivery in December 2016 surged $17.08, or 14 percent, in the three trading days since Goldman Sachs Group Inc., raised its forecast to $141 a barrel for the second half of the year. Yesterday, Societe Generale SA and Credit Suisse raised their forecasts, while billionaire Boone Pickens repeated his prediction for $150 oil this year.

``You see more money going into the back end of the curve,'' said Olivier Jakob, managing director of Petromatrix Gmbh in Zug, Swizterland. ``The issue is not the fundamentals. What's bullish is the comments from people like Goldman Sachs, Boone Pickens.''

Guys, i dont want to spoil the party, but what use is it following the price in dollars? The devaluation has some say in high prices. The euro is therefor a better choice. And it's not like that won't be exciting, even in euro's oil has more than doubled in the past year.
