"Motorists have been doing what we have been recommending this week and filling up early for Easter," Motor Trade Association deputy executive director Dennis Boldock said this morning.

"This has led to some service stations running low of certain types of fuel.

"If people go into service stations and find the type of fuel they want is not available they should go to another service station

“But Tata Power’s Trombay facility is based on imported coal from Indonesia and will not be affected due to this estimated shortage,” the official added.

Responding to a call attention notice of independent legislator Charanjit Singh Channi that there is great resentment over acute shortage of kerosene and cooking gas in the state.

I think this is Ecuador:

Apparently, they've had the military take over the gas stations, to prevent smuggling and prevent gas shortages?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')HE fuel shortage in Kampala and other parts of the country has persisted for a second week, leaving several filling stations dry. There were long queues of motorists at many of the city filling stations yesterday.

East Africa is facing an acute shortage because a big ship, carrying diesel, broke down at the high sea and had to be sent back to the Gulf for repair

All Africa

Uganda again. They have not been in a normal situation for a year now, which I guess now means that the "normal situation" is a state of no fuel.

Australia preparing for shortages:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')rian Williams and Graham Redfearn

FUEL rationing may be one in a series of shocks facing drivers and commuters in Queensland.

Looming oil shortages would produce the biggest change in society since the industrial revolution, Sustainability Minister Andrew McNamara warned yesterday.

A report by Mr McNamara for state Cabinet on the impact of the fuel crisis is expected to include recommendations on rationing, the future of public and private transport and sustainable population issues.

It has been ordered on the premise there is overwhelming evidence world oil production will peak in under a decade. It is expected to recommend risk mitigation measures such as cuts in fuel consumption and encouraging the development and use of alternative fuels, technologies and strategies.

It will also outline demographic and regional changes as Queenslanders change travel, work and living habits.

"I think people are going to be in for a shock when they find it's too expensive to drive their cars to work and then, when they get down to the station, they find the train is full and they can't get on board," Mr McNamara said.

To underscore his concerns Mr McNamara will appear in a documentary film premiering next week in which he says the days when Queenslanders could "travel on a whim" in oil-powered vehicles are numbered.

The documentary Australia Pumping Empty, argues southeast Queensland is squandering billions on road, bridge and tunnel projects which few will be able to afford to travel on.

Mr McNamara says he will recommend the State Government focuses urgently on ways to cut private-car use.

"I cannot overstate this – we need to adopt a wartime mentality," he said. "We're going to face a level of urgency that will require dramatic change."

Private car use was expected to trend towards hybrid vehicles and then to electric. "But will we have enough (electricity generating) capacity when everyone comes home and plugs their cars in to recharge?" he said.

Mr McNamara said no government would want to introduce fuel rationing but it could not be ruled out.

It might become an option as fuel supplies ran down and prices rose because otherwise it might be a case of only the rich being able to afford private transport, he said.

"We face the need for a whole new economy, from the way we generate power, to how we deliver water, to how we live," he said.

Can someone clue me into what a "sustainability minister" is and how long Austraila's government has had such a post at that level?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]NEW DELHI: Fuel consumers in the country could be in for some hard times if the threats by oilcos are to be taken seriously. Oil marketing companies are planning to cut supplies of cooking gas, diesel, kerosene and even petrol. The cash-strapped companies—IOC, HPCL and BPCL—have told the government that they would soon be forced to impose quotas for consumers of cooking fuel even while completely stopping new connections.
(snip)
Top honchos of all the three oil companies met petroleum ministry officials earlier this week to apprise the government of the growing losses. “Demand will have to be restricted to supplies. We are not in a position to import anymore. It is no longer a question of making profits. We do not have the cash to import and meet the demand,” the top boss of an oilco said.

Economic Times
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')o new LPG connections: PSU oil firms NEW DELHI: Faced with a whopping Rs 200,000 crore revenue loss on fuel sales this fiscal, state-run oil firms have decided not to issue new domestic LPG connections and fix quota for the existing customers so as to make ends meet within the existing collections.

Marketing Directors of Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum in a joint petition to the Petroleum Ministry yesterday suggested cost cutting measures as their losses on sale of petrol, diesel, LPG and PDS kerosene mounted to over Rs 550 crore a day, a top official said.

Government's bar on oil firms to raise fuel prices despite cost of raw material (crude oil) doubling to over 120 dollars a barrel, is likely to see the three firms end the current year with a revenue loss of Rs 200,000 crore. Last year, the revenue loss was Rs 77,304.50 crore.

"Oil companies are borrowing Rs 3,500 crore per month to keep their operations. Our borrowings (for the three firms) have reached Rs 65,000 crore. We have suggested measures that will at least limit the losses at existing levels," he said.

From TF:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ullish or bearish for oil prices?

At the first glance you would say bid up oil prices, but I'm reading that they are stopping imports of expensive diesel so that would be bearish.

This comment indicates that even among what we would consider the informed members of the population, market traders, there is little comprehension of what is transpiring. Anyone who understood the basics of fossil fuel depletion would not ask such a question!

Stopping imports is a sign that the fuels are just no longer there, and this situation will not improve with time. Looking at the reports posted on this thread, how can there be the slightest doubt that we are not entering the worst energy crisis in history. It is a growing crisis, and one that will obviously continue to get much, much worse!

Found this at Energy Shortages :
Argentina: La escasez de naftas provoca avivadas en las estaciones
Fuel shortages are not exclusive to the province. "In addition to Mendoza, Argentina throughout the Northeast presents serious problems of supply," said one Rosario Sica, owner of the Federation of Enterprises of Fuel of Argentina (FECRA).
Bangladesh: Bangladesh to get $400 mln World Bank loan for power
Due to shortages of gas, Bangladesh is unable to produce enough electricity to meet demand and faces a 1,500 megawatts shortfall.
Economists and business leaders have said that due to a lack of regular power supply, Bangladesh incurs up to $1 billion industrial losses yearly.
Bolivia: Villegas aplaza a la Aduana en lucha contra el contrabando de combustible
Villegas said the shortage was evident, especially in the border because of Cobija Bolivian citizens engaged in smuggling of diesel to Brazil...
India: Power shortage makes cos rely on liquid fuel captive plants
Companies running their captive liquid-fuel based power plants are shelling out as much as Rs 7 a unit of electricity generated, nearly one and a half times more than what it cost them to generate electricity from the same plants a year ago or double of what it was three years ago.
Nigeria: N/ Delta Youths Threaten Olokola LNG
Niger Delta youths yesterday in Abuja threatened to frustrate the piping of natural gas from Escravos in Delta State to the Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project located between Ogun and Ondo states.
Pakistan: Small traders lose up to Rs 1.13b per hour of load shedding
Each hour of load shedding is tantamount to a loss of Rs 1.13 billion, and the losses faced by small trader has forced them to reduce manpower by 5 percent in recent times, and these cuts are expected to go up to 35 percent, showing clearly that claims made to have improved KESC’s system are nothing more than castles in the air, said All Pakistan Organization of Small Traders and Cottage Industries (APOSTCI) President Mehmood Hamid.
Pakistan: Energy conservation plan to combat shortage : minister
Senior Punjab Minister Raja Riaz has said the government is well aware of the sufferings of masses and the difficulties being faced by the industry. In that regard, he said, a crash energy conservation plan had already been announced by the federal government to bridge the demand-supply gap.
Philippines: More talks sought on looming Visayas power crisis
Plans to build more coal-fired plants and tap more geothermal sources might be put on hold as Catholic church leaders and nongovernment organizations remain firm in opposing these moves to solve the energy shortage in the Visayas.
South Africa: 'SA must build more power stations'
As the country continues to grapple with the power shortage, Eskom is turning to Russia for advice on how to deal with the crippling energy crisis. But, the Russians say building more nuclear power stations could solve South Africa's energy problems.

Philippines, wtf is wrong with geothermal?!

And no news on Nicaragua? There have being about 10 days of strike of truckers and taxis because they want part of the discount Venezuela is giving to Nicaragua. To "freeze the cost of gasoline at <$3"... lol, freeze the price of gasoline... like if no one was aware of peak oil. In Costa Rica's newspaper La Nacion, I read about this. And 1 trucker that was on strike was killed by someone that didn't agree with this strike (I guess, but it was killed). First victim of Peak Oil in Central America? I guess it is... but few are aware of the (fundamental) cause.

update: the strike on Nicaragua is over. The government accepted to freeze the cost of gasoline for public transportation, taxis but not for truckers.

We have fuel shortages showing up all over the world from Nepal, all of Africa to Australia. Chinese crude imports fell 3.7% last month. Not including African nations, at least 10 are reporting shortages. It is right here on PO News, if one would bother to read it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') three-day-old strike by about 55,000 white collar workers at state-run oil companies has caused a severe fuel shortage in India, leaving nearly 60 percent of gas pumps dry and delaying flights, officials and news reports said Friday.

Long lines of cars formed at gas stations as the fuel shortage worsened in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and other cities.
