Peakoil.com seems to have been invaded by cornucopians.
Anyways, anything can look good from 10,000 above. I wonder how many of those suburban homes will be abandoned in the future.

Outside of Ray Kurzweil's assertion that we will have nano-bot designed solar panels/advance battery storage in the near term, how will most people be able to continue/afford doing such long commutes daily?

I think it will look more like Beijing 20 years ago. Large roads which are only being used by thousands of bicyclists.

Caine - thanks for the pics - enjoyed them.
Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

Thanks for the support Shannymara, Cashmere, and PeakingAroundtheCorner. I was beginning to wonder if this is a peak oil website. :)

Caine,

Welcome. Have fun here. It's a fun place.

***

Anyone remember that movie from about 1978 or so with Lee Majors and Burgess Meredith where it's a post oil world, but for some reason Lee Majors is driving a race car and Burgess Meredith is chasing him in a Sabre fighter plane?

I saw that movie when I was a kid and some of the images of abandoned gas stations remind me of those pics above.

***

Edit: The movie was called "The Last Chase" and it was 1981.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')his futuristic adventure stars Lee Majors as a former racing champ who reassembles his old Porsche and drives to California in a world where cars have been outlawed by the powers that be.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Caine', 'T')hanks for the support Shannymara, Cashmere, and PeakingAroundtheCorner. I was starting to feel all alone in here. :) Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

No worries Caine, lots of good company around here. BTW, that gas station you posted the pics of. . . I've seen it before, in the movie "The Postman" starring Kevin Costner.

FWIW, those pics OF2 posted pretty much clinches it for me that he is a troll.

What other names can we come up with using "OF2"? Offensive F*cker 2?

Great pictures!!

I was on a bike ride with my daughter a few days ago and we passed this small beat-up building. I told her it used to be a gas station. She had trouble believing it, so I showed her where the pumps were and where the cars pulled in. To her, gas stations are at Safeway and Costco... well, and the big facilities doubling as small grocery stores.

It then dawned on me the youth of America have never seen 'gas stations', only food stores selling gas.
