One of the local dealerships in my area got in trouble with the state association of Auto Dealers for a promotional offer.

It was giving customers that bought a full-size truck or SUV a 2nd car (Chevy Aveo) for free.

Seems to me that several years ago the larger, gas-guzzling vehicles were flying off the lots. Now they have to bribe customers with a 2nd, smaller vehicle to get them to take the bait.

As far as I can tell Automakers aren't going to change through the 2006 model year.

They're banking on human nature. People buying cars don't exhibit rational behavior. People don't compromise for reality. People on these boards are constantly speculating on the "price point breaker"- the price at which fuel will be so expensive it will override the reptilian drives of the older parts of our brains that identifiy size, speed, mass, weight and height with emotionally-driven concepts of power and security.
