Next stop, Yellowstone caldera covers the US in ash. The Big One destroys San Fransisco and L.A. Another asteroid hits the Yucatan and puts a cloud of sulphuric acid around the Earth. Then the AntiChrist appears on TV. But as he casts his demonic gaze on the enthralled audience, a gamma ray burst hits the Earth and boils the oceans and turns the sky brown. Skin falls off of any survivors.

It seems more than one volcano is showing activity.

This one isn't that far-fetched. According to the geological history Yellowstone super-volcano is supposed to erupt about every 600,000 years. It's done that for several million years, except there's one little problem... it hasn't gone off in about 650,000 years. That's right, it's about 50,000 years overdue. Scientists say it could erupt any day now.

Anyone in South Florida can answer that one. It is June 1st. I'm hoping for another Wilma event. If we get a major hurricane every year, it will keep people prepared for disasters, of all kinds. People who are prepared to live with weeks of no utilities is a plus. Also, it may drive up the insurance prices again, lowering the population in South Florida as people move out.

It we have a bad hurricane season then I think we will see some real action in the oil and natural gas markets.

$50 spread over 8 months is nothing compared to another $50 in less than a week.

All of this price action we've seen lately had no obvious catalyst other than those pesky speculators.

I can't wait to see what happens when there is a real event like a storm or a fresh round of shooting in the ME or some awful event I can't imagine right now.

I am about 350 miles from Yellowstone and go there about every other year, well used to anyway, so I check up on the activity there all the time.

Magnitude 3.5-4.5 earthquakes are quite common in the area. I wouldn't start getting worried until we see them in the 5.0-6.0 range on a regular basis...

I have wondered about that. Will there be early warning quakes, or will the darn thing just blow up one day? Quite fascinating.

either way, it's not wise to be on the range of explosion (even on the crater itself!) of a super volcano on the same range that it becomes active.

When I first learned about Yellowstone being a supervolcano (and being introduced to this category of volcanos) I just thought... wow, almost all a national park is a crater!
