It's like asking do I love my left nut.

I speak no other language, have lived nowhere else, and am connected to the land.

I'm continually reading American history and works by American authors.

We have an on-going project here at home figuring out how they did it here in the 1830s.

The government and about 60% of the people are howlingly insane, however.

While I haven't "lived" anywhere else, I've traveled to many other countries & I have never seen a place I would rather live!

Sure America has it's problems, but it's the best place I've ever seen anywhere. It is us, the people, that need to do a better job TELLING the Gov't what to do (or dismanteling the gov't & put a new one in it's place that WILL listen to the people).

It's our one & only constitutional obligation, and we're failing at it.

I love it with all its faults.

It is not perfect ut few place come close to giving someone opportunities that one gets in the US.

Bill Gates would have gotten nowhere in Russia , China or India.

To trick the people is easy, thus America has been ticked. Those running the show are not true Americans. They hijacked this nation on a bankrupt trajectory. The real ones are found in small towns of Vermont, Wisconsin, Arkansas etc.

Here is a good example of what I was referring to above.

Lawyer

Reminds me of the policeman who warned me not to walk on Lake Superior ice in winter when I was 9 yr. old. I had just arrived in USA :-)

Well, Bill Gates is a ruthless son of a bitch. I think he would have fit
right in running a Russian mob or mob backed business ventures.
Regarding microsoft though, he was definitely in the right place at
the right time and made the necessary cut throat moves to get the
business going. Also regarding tricking people, Bill Gates is certainly
one of the Americans "tricking people".

Advertising lies and bureaucracy is what keeps microsoft afloat.
They contribute to the software industry almost as much as they
hold it back. Almost every free version of software I've used is
superior in performance to microsoft software packages. But
businesses buy what is tried, tested and most important advertised.
Microsoft only exists because of advertising and not superior
products. People buy their product because it's advertised and
replace it because microsoft doesn't service their old versions
forcing people to waste lots of money on software and new
hardware.

It's forced consumerism, like oil companies tearing out light rail
transport so people "needed" cars more.

But no offense, just thinking...

I was thinking along the lines of being able to start a business, find money and be a self starter.

In Russia you are correct, the mob is the equivalent of innovative business model. However even here you would need connections :-)

I love the "idea" of America, much much more than the reality that exists here, and now.

The ideals expressed in teh Constitution, though they may be distasteful to fascists, communists, monarchists, and socialists are revolutionary in and of themselves.

The whole concept of liberty and freedom of interference from government is an anomaly in world history. The lone exception in all of recorded history.

Regrettably, most of my fellow citizens fail to grasp that, and vote for ever more government, war, and taxes.

Which is why I believe this country, as a functional political entity is totally fucked. I hate that but I can't see any other outcome.

That brings me great sadness when I actually stop to think about our situation and our 'preference' for Clinton, Obama, and McAmnesty.

Three birds of a feather as far as I'm concerned.

I say we buy 50 million electric vehicles, paint them all red white and blue and give them away.

The $507 billion wasted in Iraq would have bought 43 million of them.

The projected 1 trillion dollars would have bought how many?
80 MILLION

God help us all if we do not change now,

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cynus', 'I')'m actually only interested in hearing from posters who answer "yes" and what their reasons are. (If someone wants to start another post called "why do you hate America" for America-haters to post their reasons, that would be OK.)

yes I love America, for the following reasons....

Only in America......can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

Only in America......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

Only in America......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America......do people order double cheese burgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

Only in America......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in America......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in America......do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

Only in America......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Only in America......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

and finally

Only in America......can homeless combat veterans live in a cardboard box and viet nam draft dodger(s) become president!
truth is,...

AMERICA IS WONDERFUL !!

I have been to ~ 40 countries in my travels around the world and there is no country that has what the US has (although I will take Brazil's female population any day of the week). If you have the guts, gumption and smarts to do something, then this is the country for you.

Cid Yama need not post here.

I love America.

I love it so much, I fight with every word I type to prevent it's Constitution from being trampled beneath the jackboots of the scum suckin' Bush Administration and it's corporate masters.

I took an oath to defend the Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic. That oath is sacred.

The North American Union that the Bush Administration is working so hard towards, will mean the end of the Constitution, the end of the United States of America. If you love America, now is the time to stand up and defend it's very existence.

That is, unless you want to live in Mexamerada.

Just so you know, the U.S.A.F. is on the side of the American people. Let people know they will not be alone.

Read some Thomas Paine someday and find out what America is really supposed to be.

Yes. The Republic as an ideal, free speech, human rights, the constitution. The melting pot. Creativity, dynamism, directness.

Current situation is quite bad, but there is still hope.

Thank you Cid, you made my point. I disagree with some of your posts, but the above is so uniquely American (in the good sense), something one hardly finds somewhere else.

In the US you don't swear to defend the country (or the Queen, the King etc) but the Constitution.

"America"?

The hemisphere? Yes.

The country that usurps its name like France referring to itself alone as "Europe"? Well, not as much as I once did. It was a country to admire and whose lead could be followed once. It sure isn't now. And I don't know if it has the will to be again. It seems like being a pushy bully without an ounce of regard for friend or foe is just too soft an option for them to pass up. :(
