A letter home

Mom,

The powers that be are scrambling to hide the real condition of the economy and the state of necessary resources. Think on this. When I started telling you about peak oil, absolutely no one was talking about it. Even now, those that talk about it, mostly try to play it down. But everyone is starting to talk about it. If we have a bad winter, many people will die. New England is already experiencing shortages of heating oil and it is very expensive. North Dakota is also experiencing shortages of heating oil. When the dollar crashes(everyone globally is dumping the dollar) we will not be able to afford imports. This includes most of the oil and natural gas we use. This winter is marginal if cold. Next winter will be catastrophic. The world as we have known it has ceased to exist. People have just not caught on yet. Unless you can heat with wood and can lay in several cords of wood before next winter, Michigan is probably not the best place to be. Watch Maine and North Dakota this winter. They will give you a clue to Michigan next winter. I'm glad I lived my life the way I have. I have enjoyed my entire life. If I die, it will be the culmination of a good life. I have no regrets. The best I can suggest is make peace with your life. There are no guarantees here on out. If you can move, northwest Mississippi looks good, moderate temps both summer and winter and plenty of water. Much of the country has exhausted the aquifers, so you need to take water into consideration with any move.

Sorry for the doom and gloom,
Bill

I wrote a letter like this to my mother a while back to which she responded that she and my father were thinking of moving to Arizona. They've since bought an RV.

I have to try again.
