$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')n unforgettable home run

5/6/2008

Sara Tucholsky is a senior at Western Oregon University. This is her last season playing college ball. She's never been a power hitter. In fact, she'd never hit a home run. That is, until a game against Central Washington University.

Her first ever homer brought in two teammates. But in her excitement, she missed first base. As she turned back, she tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). She couldn't round the bases under her own power.

So, what happened? You'll have to watch the video. I guarantee, it will bring a smile to your face.

What say ye?

She should have walked it off like a man or forfeit the home run. What's that you say: it is just game. Not for those who live, breathe, and die by baseball. Then people wonder why women's teams aren't taken seriously.

Truly amazing. The computer graphics looked so real...just like real humans. Of course, the impossible behavior patterns reveal that the entire video is simply an animation.

Good one, Roccman. You almost had me fooled.

Two things: 1. Clearly you've never f'ed up your knee. Walking it off is impossible. (Kirk Gibson's 88 homer was sometime after the actual injury, not at the exact moment like here) 2. Note at the end of the ESPN thing that the actual NCAA rules allow for a "pinch" runner in cases where a player hits a home run and cannot round the bases, so she wouldn't had to forfeit it anyway, which only makes the whole thing more commendable.

They followed the rules. However, I don't see anything exceptional in what they did, as do some of the folks blathering about character and doing the "right" thing. It's called cooperation and women do it every day.

Merc, I'm thinking compared to all the news clips showing out of control sports/stage/school parents it is exceptional.

Well sure, the video is BETTER (because it makes us feel good) than watching people yell and scream and beat each other up. I'm just saying the girls' BEHAVIOR is not exceptional just because they were on the opposing team. They just helped a fellow player, as I'm sure they'd tell you if asked.

Some people are so religious about the whole competition thing, that when they see an example of something else, they tear up. Meh.
