Need lnkies for debunking local news that are WRONG

Unread postby whereagles » Tue 06 May 2008, 05:23:02

Hi guys,

Need your help for the following. A local newspaper (Lisbon, Portugal, ~1 million readers) features an editorial article bitching about oil prices. The usual yadayada "mr president, pls lower gas taxes NOW" stuff, but, surprisingly, a good deal of the things said there are actually correct. However, this one isn't quite so:

"As we all understand, the extraction costs did not modify - they are still a couple of cents per litre in any well in the middle of the desert."

(My translation). Now, I'm going to email the staff pointing out that extraction costs went UP the last years. What I'd like is to have some linkies to official estimates on extraction costs (and prospection, for that matter), just so I have a better case. Help anyone?

I'm not sure it's worth telling the truth to journalists whose jobs depend on the fact they don't "understand", as advertisers are powerfull enough to decide about the editorial.
It's like preaching in the desert.

If you have chance, your text will eventually be stucked between an airplane holidays ad and a SUV one.

Nevertheless, I get how frustating it is to read bullshit when you know the truth. Myselft, I sometime want to shout "HELLO! PEAK OIL IS COMING! SAY HELLO TO WORLD WAR 3!" when i'm in the subway or walking in the french walmart.

Oil is a boring subject to the average fellow, it's really a bad seller for a book title, but a good one for everything else!

Why don't you try ASPO Portugal or the Spanish web Crisis Energetica for links maybe even in Portuguese ....?
