Need Some Help

Postby KHudson » Mon 05 May 2008, 19:27:46

I maybe totally off base, but I'm trying to determine a few items from different people in the oil/gas business. Thanks in advance:

I need to determine items that fit the following criteria:

Are required for use by the oil/gas industry.
The product is in high demand.
The product is expensive to obtain.
The product is produced by only a few companies.
An items that is expensive, but doesn't need to be.

Please PM me with any suggestions for items that meet the criteria.

Thanks again!

I think the major item that meets all your criteria is experience oil and gas professionals. PEOPLE

The oil industry needs people.

:) No..my company was one of the first to bring the cost of buying HDTV accessories down. While most were charging $100 for a HDMI cable, we introduced a $5 cable and took alot of market share.

That being said, we are looking at doing the same in the oil'gas market to help other save money on cost, thus improving margins and building a niche for ourselve. We have manyfacturing capacity in China.

Thanks!

How much do you know about the oil and gas industry? If you could find a company to build drilling rigs then you would be set because rigs are in huge demand and cannot be built fast enough.

However building oil field equipment is a little different than copying HDTV accessories.

I work in the oil industry. Here are a couple items you might look into.

1) electric submersible pumps. These pumps must operate down-hole in the wells and usually must be able to withstand high temperatures and some particulates (sand) in the fluid flow. This type of pump is/will become more and more utilized as the water-cut in older fields increases. Currently these pumps sell for tens of thousands of dollars.
Somewhat oddly there is a need for Low Volume pumps as well. Usually these are progressive cavity pumps.

2) Field data capture and transmission devices. We need cheap devices to measure fluid flow and transmit the meter readings back to a central location. They must be rugged enough for 24-7 outdoor exposure and the sensing devices need to deal with 150 (F) temperatures in the fluids.

3) Cheap pressure and temperature sensing devices that can reside in an idle well and relay through the above field data capture devices. Monitoring pressures and temperatures can be done from idle wells in large fields and is a crucial tool for reservoir engineers. We need something like a fiber-optic system that some guys came around selling. Unfortunately they got bought out and we never heard from them again. How I wish we had that system!

good luck
