Energy Bulletin

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')ne of the main impacts of the Age of Cheap Oil, the great Petroleum Party so rapidly drawing to a close, has been the monumental deskilling that has gone on during that time. A friend of mine recently told me of a friend of his 14 year old son, who had grown up eating sliced bread, and was unable to actually cut a slice of bread from a loaf! How many people now know how to cook, garden, build, repair, mend, pickle, prune or scythe? In the space of two generations, we have lost so much basic knowledge and skills that previous generations learnt by osmosis without even thinking about it.

Well? Can you garden?

My husband can't garden, but he can sew, weld, form metal, make molds in a variety of materials, use a lathe, and do a bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now. He's pretty darn handy, makes his living with his hands, in fact (like I do).

Bought some books on the subject. Probably going to study them this summer.

Also, bought some books on on repairs, electrical engineering, wiring, physics, and much much more(went to a super super good book sale).

will probably acquire more books over the summer too!

I also bought some books on agriculture, fertilizers, crop diversification.

So I'm working on it.

I'm pretty darn good with a husqvarna chain saw, if I say so myself. We hit 60° today in central Alaska, and I had a great day cutting and stacking wood for next winter. One can't get started on the summer chores too early, and it was great being out in the sun on the first really warm day of the year, enjoying the views of the snowy Alaska Range and the still-frozen Tanana River to the south and cutting and hauling wood. :)

My roommate asked me to defrost his freezer for him.

Not because he was lazy, but because he did not know how to. 8O

My father didn't teach me shit about how to do anything really. The SOB (literally)!

Well, at least he taught me math and my mom taught me to love reading.

The rest I'll have to figure out. So far, I can chop wood and make some ill kim-chi (known to cure bird flu). :)

Thread is a sad commentary.

On a brighter note the garden is doing well, fruit trees are doing well, especially the apples that I pruned hard two years ago. This years ram lambs are looking delicious. Two hens are setting.

Had fun today shooting the Ruger 10-22 at 150 yds. to play with drop and windage. Good fun.

Who needs to garden when there are arachnids, worms and insects to eat? Vegetables and fruit aren't filling at all (vegetables taste like shit and make me hungrier). Insects and worms on the other hand are very filling , especially the big ones. One day I ate 6 june bugs... it kept me full for 15 hours. Earthworms aren't that bad either, they're kind of bland... at least they taste better than Mc Donald's food, though.

When food gets too expensive, I'll just lift up some stones and eat the bugs and worms underneath.

Fucking picky eaters.

I was thinking that too. Most men can at least handle some tools and handle at least some manual labor.

I'm a little bit embarrassed by my lack of useful skills, especially compared with other posters here. My father was a hobbyist carpenter, and I always used to help him around the house. I can hammer, screw and saw, but I wouldn't know where to begin if I had to complete a whole project by myself.

I can tie lots of different knots, which I've learned from years of fishing, and I'll be taking a permaculture course for a few months, so I guess I'm making some progress.

I cut perfect slices of bread using a right-handed knife in my left hand.

Anything--anything!--having to to with growing, preparing, preserving and cooking food, I can do it.

The only thing I really can't do is raise bees. They die, fuck 'em.

The most USELESS MEN in the world:
SCIENTISTS. They have been trained to believe lies so they can no longer think. They think we came from snails, how ignorant can you get?

The cleansing light is much more red than blue.

When the Ozone goes, there will be huge amounts of energy in the frequencies between microwave and infrared that is immeasuarable (no scientific detectors in this band) that already is melting the poles, this is called
tera hertz radiation.

We didn't notice it because we can't even detect it with instruments, we just feel a bit warmer. No objective way to measure this, blindsided by a haymaker
infra-sighted.

High power microwaves, travel through wood, trees paper and plastic as if they dont exist, they can be ducted, converted and measured but they werent even discovered till 1990.
we missed it bigtime.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'J')unk Brains like mine access the unconsciousness, a place that frightens most people, takes them out of their comfort zones and back to AfriKA. Junk brains hang out, spend most of their time investigating symbols, and a connected archetypal world, looking for connections, and not pointing out the differences using religion.

Unfortunately "higher level" is a synonym for more self absorbed and selfish.

bad idea to go there.
now onward to help others:

Have you read "A Canticle for Liebowitz"? Its a great Sci-Fi book based on the premise that crazed mobs hunt and kill all the scientists, creating a new dark age.
