[Peak Oil Short Movies]

Unread postby Aerobar » Tue 03 Jan 2006, 05:48:57

Here are some amateur short videos about Peak Oil and current hot/cold oil/gas wars:
  • Black October: it starts like a remake of 'The Hunt for Red October'... - aired last October on a cable TV channel in the Los Angeles area
  • Oilway To Hell: since our economies always require more and more energy to grow, what could happen when the oil production will peak ? - would probably be included in a 90-minute professional documentary this year
  • 20OIL: the odyssey that actually began in 2001
  • soixante-neuf: erotic pseudo-ad made to 'celebrate' the crossing of the $69 threshold at oil prices markets last August
  • Oil Wars III: oil-related geopolitics à la George Lucas
  • Duel at Seattle: last giants struggling for survival
  • EDIT: Europe's Nightmare: based on the recent Ukrainian gas cutoff
  • EDIT: Impossible Mission: six world leaders strugging for oil
Movie files are usually in Windows Media format (choose this format for the best quality), sometimes in several sizes; check the 'View Movie' section of the above links to select the file.
Thank you for your feedback!

Aerobar,

brilliant, great work.

The second movie was stalling on me half way through. Can you export to quicktime? Windows media format is such a sad sap technology compared to quicktime. I wish they would pass a law to ban windows media player, or something. Some sort of legislative action to ban sh*tty software from the internet.

I was just thinking of Spiderman 2. How Dr. Octopus tried to find that new energy source and how it was bad.

I also think about Batman Begins about its critique on society and how materially extravagant yet morally and socially bankrupt our society has become. And the opinions on the solution.

Aerobar

Nice work, I especially liked October.

impossible_mission_256kb.mp4 has a couple of audio glitches using Quicktime 7.0.4 and gas-putin_256kb.mp4 is not recognised as a movie file.

What application did you use to create these?

I actually use Windows Media Player for the final cut. Then I convert the WMV file to MPEG2 and DIVX (which generates a few minor conversion bugs). Archive.org hosting services automatically create the MP4 files - I guess there is some room for improvement in the whole process... It is then highly recommended to watch the 'master' version (WMV).

Not exactly about Peak Oil, these clips are about the current electricity blackouts, especially in California...

This is a trailer movie for the latest game "Frontline - Fuel Of War"

Download it to view it without the streaming delays of slow modems :)

This game is about war based on PEAK OIL

Yeah it would suck if that stuff happened.

That's why I don't think it will.

Should be a good game though.

Some new stuff of my own:
  • The (Fossil) Invaders, a pastiche of the opening credits of the TV series of the same name. It is more dedicated to climate change, but connects it to the Peak Oil issue through the developments of GHG-emitting substitutes
  • Subprime Street (gOILrillaz), derived from Gorillaz music videos, highlights the strong link between Suburbia and oil, and proposes a roadmap for ersatz oil in terrestrial transportation.

Hello everybody

Another humorous video on oil, focusing this time on prices: Calogeroil

A living oil barrel sings 'En apesanteur' (Weightless), a recent hit from the French singer Calogero.

Taking the lift toward high prices, the oil barrel was initially convinced that he could only reach two-figures floor numbers. But inside the liftcage, he met the Goddess of Speculation, who could take him to undiscovered levels, thanks to the commodity bubble and the fall of the dollar currency.

For those who don't understand anything in French, here's a translation of the lyrics:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') just jump in
as the liftdoors close
She tells me the floor number
And her voice makes me fly
Then numbers dance
Everything gets confused
I'm facing an angel

Aaaaaaah

Weightless

Aaaaaaah

May seconds last hours

Aaaaaaah

Weightless

Aaaaaaah

May we be alone
in this elevator

Revi, my friend Ian made this one. I'm one of the interviewees.

Ian has caught a lot of shit because of his 9/11 stuff, but the peak oil stuff is good (parts 1, 2, 3).

He lives in Bath now with some friends of mine.

How the End Began.

Not really impressed with this stuff. It's high on sarcastic politics and low on content. Don't think anyone will care about this besides the converted.

Something like this is more effective:

Zeitgeist: The Movie

Unread postby NoahsDove » Sat 15 Nov 2008, 15:58:22

Anyone seen this? Pretty long, actually.

------------------------------------------
Zeitgeist Movies & The Venus Project

In the first hour, George spoke with Peter Joseph, the writer, producer and director of the controversial documentary Zeitgeist: The Movie and its sequel, Zeitgeist: Addendum. The films explore "the myth of religion, the myth of 9/11, and the myth of the financial system," according to Joseph.
