$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Opies', 'I') could be wrong, but I believe according to current quantum theory, we are the product of non-cancellation. That is to say that millions of realities theoretically could exist, but they cancel each other out like 2 opposing electrons with opposite spins, or anti-matter obliterating matter. We are the remainder in the universal equation which is attempting to balance itself out... or something to that effect.

As a physicist I have no idea what that means. It's really shocking to see what pseudo-mystical nonsense people make of physics. Where do you get this stuff, and who pushes such crap to the masses ?

I've had mystic experiences since 14 years old, a visit of a deva (angel) before a dark night of the soul.

at 21 I started experiencing jhannas on meditation and had a kundalini awakening... but it stoped abruptly due to external (psychiatric) forces which I'm about to leave in less than a year.

I still experience jhannas and harmonize all chakras... but now it's mostly arupa-jhannas or the 4th jhanna... and consciousness without feature or pure awareness meditation.

I have developed the third eye, but not so "shinny", I can read easily other human's auras and minds (not thoughts, more like the essence of the soul... but it takes some time).

I will try astral travel when the psychiatric prescription ends. Haven't decided if I will cut the silver thread if I am on an astral travel.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Kaj', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lawnchair', 'T')he only thing I do not feel is scientifically explainable is why there is something and not nothing. Thus, I call myself a deist. But, I do not believe this little corner of the decillion+ cubic light years of existence is uniquely connected to that Creator, and I have seen nothing within that creation cannot be rationally explained.

I like your thinking.

The other thing I wrestle with, though, is 'consciousness' or 'awareness'. How this me-ness which seems to be inside me comes to be, what it is, and how it manages to spring from atoms. Its difficult to describe this, but here is my quandry:

If I replaced every atom of my brain, piece by piece, with identical matter, is there a point in which my awareness stops being me-ness? I don't think so. And yet, if I replaced my brain wholesale in one swoop, I feel as though that ego would die.

This kind of thing makes me have the occasional pseudo-spiritual thoughs about consciousness etc.

consciousness can not be explained with matter, maybe energy... but you have to be willing to explore more and don't believe in scientific dogma. I recomend meditation if you want to know mind and understand pure awareness... it worked for me.

I would love to get into meditation. Problem is I am very "right-brained" and analysing the world is a huge distraction for me. I am going to try meditating again this Summer. If you have any hints or good starting points I would like to hear.

I used to believe that analytic philosophy could answer everything, but time and time again it left unanswered questions, particularly in questions involving human agency and awareness.

edit: I meant I am very "left brained", oops.

Can you close your eyes and see only shades of light? Mostly it's warm colors where you can just be aware of the movements of light, you can know for example in what direction is the sun. Meditate on light, I think this works for most humans that overanalyse... hey, I can be included on this list! meditating on light helped me to learn to relax. But start with meditation on breathing, someday you may meditate on both breathing and light. Later you can meditate to harmonize the chakras/energy.

If you overanalyse reality you will not experience reality, if you only experience reality you will not understand it in a way that can be organized and stored for future reference, and to talk about it. "too far to one side takes you to the other side".

And why start later? A lot of time is wasted on "in between moments"... Usually I don't wait in a bus or for someone, I meditate. Usually I don't just walk, I meditate (walking jhanna or walking samadhi). Usually I don't just listen to music, I meditate. Usually I don't just paint, write literature or make music, I meditate. Usually I don't just see or talk to other humans, I meditate (this is also useful to read or know the awareness of other beings... but if you are aware of this, humans will look "ugly" because of their underdeveloped spiritual growth... you have to be wise before "seeing this", otherwise you can became bitter, angry, frustrated or crazy). Change wherever you can, everyday activities to meditation... if the basis is just relaxing by contemplating breathing, why not do it every breath you take? Current humans don't even know how to breath! (they don't fill all their lungs on each breath).

Thanks for all the input. The poll answers seem to validate my hypothesis so far. Many conscious and critical people profess to have experienced something supernatural or trancendental, which I think is quite intriguing.

I also suspect that after the PO catastrophe has destroyed the financial basis of the educational system and academia, which so far have been the bastions of naturalistic thought, religions and mystical worldviews will flourish again, especially as people see little hope in their daily lives.

What do you mean by "consciousness"? What is the agency of this consciousness?

Consciousness is the agency.

You seem to be talking in riddles. What is this "consciousness" you keep talking about, and do you really know it or is this some sort of play with words ?

Oh, and what in the world is a "consciousness field" ?
