Of course the Armed forces will turn against the need of the people ,
It will be a " NATIONAL EMERGENCY " declared from the presidential lectern with congress as a chorus , very dramatic , the speech alone will be probably grand

The hilarious bit will be the unseemly bitch fight between the services for the last dredges of the black stuff ,
Airforce the greediest ,
Army moaning the loudest ,
Navy quietly confident with its nuke powered ships but still asking for the same share ,
the Marines grabbing the president as hostage during the negotiations while the CIA, NSA and FBI dig out dirty secrets on everybody in exchange for a few barrels ... :twisted:

I'm surprised how no one caught how strange this quote is on page 8 of report:

I thought worldwide peak of natural gas is close to an imminent peak.

Conventional domestic might be, but not the world, IIRC. Shale gas is going to be a huge play both now, and in the future.

Thanks for that link, although there's no mention of opportunities in nonconventional NG, though, esp. in light of recent successes with shale gas. I think it's a given that conventional NG is near peak, if not past.

A major natural gas discovery does not prove that North America haven't reached peak natural gas. That's like saying peak oil haven't been reached because there's a major oil discovery.

One of the interesting things with natural gas, though, is that the technology is so good that reserves are being depleted much faster. This means the peak may hold out a little longer, maybe even until 2008, then it will be followed by an even sharper fall.
