Still Insane

Unread postby common_sense » Fri 18 Apr 2008, 12:30:26

It's been 2 years and my opinion hasn't changed.

Oil is not going to run out.

Simple fact is that we've done mostly land drilling, with some offshore drilling.

Even in this insane scenario we completely run out in twenty years, there is still the fact we can drill in the oceans.

Oh, right, you forgot about the oceans.

Further, you fail to take into account that in the next eight years we'll have viable alternative fuel sources.

Jesus Christ. I'm tired of this paranoid, end of the world crap. You folks are almost as bad as the nuclear war people.

Oceanic crust does not support the conditions needed for the formation of petroleum.

Advice: change your handle to still insane.

Peak Oil has absolutely nothing to do with oil reserves and everything to do with production levels.

If you can't produce it fast enough, you have a shortage.

Yes, obviously the thousands of people who study this issue "forgot about the oceans." Not you, though! Well, that's a relief! Better get the word out...

You obviously do not understand the concept of peak oil. Go educate yourself before demonstrating your self-righteous ignorance.

That is the dumbest statement that I have heard in a long time. Big oil has been drilling in the oceans since oil drilling has started. Go educate yourself youngster before you come on this board and try to hang with the big boys. Start at the oildrum.com

Oil doesn't exist below a certain depth. The veredict is still out on shale oil production. So maybe you can cite some sources to back up your claims.

Only drilling on land? Apparently, common sense isn't aware we've been producing oil out of the North Sea for quite some time, and the Gulf of Mexico too. Nor is he aware that even Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf States have lots of off shore platforms.

For a good picture of the risk involved with off-shore drilling, check out the picture of Thunderhorse after the Gulf Hurricanes, which to this day, is still not producing any oil.

Maybe "common sense" can explain why oil is $116 a barrel, has risen for the last 7 years nonstop, and why oil production is on a plateau for three years despite high prices.

Dude, do not worry about oil running out. It just won't anyway. Always will be still lying around. We're just being taken for granted as you just don't even think of it.

Thing is that you had not thought of: Look at the gas stations. Look at the volume of cars and trucks. Not just whom around you.

The more you pay for gas, the less you take. Incidentally, you'd make other people not to any favors.

Look at the bright side, the higher the gas prices are the tastier the popcorn gets.

There are alot of people hear who wish you were right. Most of them have understood all of the arguments and know that the theory is sound and that what we are witnessing is the onset of peak oil. I bet there are two hundred regulars here who could teach a college course in peak oil, and many of the people are actually professors of economics, psychology, geology, physics, math. We have financial experts. But we also have smart folks in general. Nobody here would miss a new ghawar sitting in the deep waters somewhere.

I admit some of us are anarchists (not me) but some. Some are psychopathic shut-ins. Hey, it's the Internet. Buy in large though this site has been a major part of a growing movement and I think it will continue to be so for some time to come.

Unless they clip the wires and haul us all off to FEMA camps that is.

Lighten up dude! There is no reason for you to stalk the site like a hungry wolf unless you think that somehow we are causing the signs we are telling you are caused by peak oil. In which case we are much more powerful than I thought. I am going to be expecting a stipend from Goldman Sachs here very shortly.

I'm responding because I don't think we need to respond to posts like this at all. I'll go the extra mile with you. Name your points of contention one at a time and I will answer them using the best that we know (as far as I know, others may jump in with better info if they wish.)
I return to you now at the turning of the tide.

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
Its interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far its gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre stiff
Kick em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybodys pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When its said and done we havent told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!
