I'm not sure what I think about the BPA controversy. There is a potential concern here, but the evidence is conflicting. Some say that the amounts of BPA are minuscule and only harmful if the liquid is heated well above normal use, to the point where the bottle nearly melts. Others say that any amount of BPA is detrimental. Obviously both groups have agendas, but I've noticed that government organizations have really been pushing the claim that BPA is safe. Is this based on valid study or is this to cover their ass? Who really knows. I use and like the Nalgene-type bottles, so I hope they find a suitable replacement. I haven't thrown mine out yet, but considering how cheap they are to replace, I might do so as a precaution.

You could always just stop using it for a while and see if the health risks turn out to be minimal. Then you can start using it again.

No sense throwing it out only to buy a new one in 3 months.

It's a shame because nalgene is tough, light, and easy to clean. I love nalgene bottles. Maybe it will evolve into a "vice" like big steaks, cigarettes, or cheesecake.

I have to be skeptical of the studies, specifically at what % were the lab animals exposed to BPA. "Low doses" tell me nothing.

Also, is there a polycarbonate type available that doesn't contain BPA?
