The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Aaron,

Have you tried to confirm the accuracy of that article? If so, this is very bad, very bad. This is the most important article for everyone here to try and verify. It would certainly explain why Bush is in Europe right now, which, on another message board, I was trying to figure out.

I hope that everyone here will try to confirm this article.

I wish I was so innocent.

I read the title of the forum, and maybe I'm too innocent, but the article itself says what it says, which wouldn't be beyond believability if Simmons is right. However else is reporting this article or its facts, plus, oil prices are same old same old, so I assume, this is just a "war of the worlds" type news article.

It's odd...markets for oil are not yet open in Europe. A Google of Lou Beason produces no results. A search of the Financial Times produces nothing on Lou Beason or any hits for this story's title.

Hmmm.

Aaron, are you a Company man? 8)

Aaron aka "Lou Beason"??

The article you linked, links back to the home page of the Financial Times, but when I go to the FT home page, I can't find the article anywhere. So, how did you find this article?

Jay, amazing restraint. ;)

Folks -- the article is not real. It's presented as a spoof to consider what the news may look like in a year or two, maybe less.

I think the spoof gave itself away when they said oil prices were at $120 marks. Good thing this will come in a few years not now because for the first few paragraphs I was starting to get worried 8O You should have waited to post this in April would have been a great April fools gag

I just about shit my pants when reading this story, that is, until I tried to verify it through http://news.ft.com It does look like a credible story from the future though. Thank god it was not real today.

Yeah, I bought it, too--even printed it out!

Should've known the Saudis would never tell us that, even with all the evidence pointing to it!

I'm using the blank side of the article pages as scrap paper--gotta reduce, reuse, recycle, you know!

Yup, the $120 was a giveaway.

Question is, will we still be laughing a couple of years from now?

$120 is too much of an optimistic figure. I think $200 would be apporiate for a sudden loss of 5mbd.

I was reading the recent posts on Simmons comments about Saudi Arabia, and thinking about how abstract peak oil seems.

I was wondering how I would react if a sudden event made our hydrocarbon follies more immediate and real.

Puts preparation in a whole new context does it not?

Many thanks to HG Wells for the idea.

I hate to have been so gullible. URLs don't mean anything to me though. So, it takes me awhile to search the internet to confirm the author, see if an article is being carried by someone else, etc. Plus, as Jay points out, I do come to this side "innocent." I'm not an expert, and I come to this site to try and learn about PO. Therefore, there is a certain amount of trust that I place in the people here. Aaron, you always post good news articles. I felt like you weren't sure about this one, and therefore, didn't post it on the general "news" board, plus, I thought the title you gave the message board made you question the article, and therefore you were inviting others to comment on it or verify it. Coming on the heels of Mathew Simmons latest comments gave it a little more push with me. Anyway, I'm glad its not true and hope it never will be.
