Political System Views

Unread postby Kylon » Wed 16 Apr 2008, 02:10:11

I was thinking that a perfect political system should be a capitalist democracy with a strong social safety net, high taxes on the wealthy, and policies that allow for extreme social stratification.

Policies that increase opportunity for everyone, and assist in the formation of businesses, and the development of ideas of individuals, while in return the individuals pay high taxes as a result of being given a hand up.

This way, with lots of pressure for upwards mobility, it gives opportunity to all who possess the creativity, the ability, the will, the ambition and the competence to get ahead, while taxing away wealth to produce the maximum amount of wealth for the state to pay for such policies.

Because the upper classes would be insecure in their positions(due to programs that increases upward mobility such as education, banking policies to help develop small businesses, and government policies to help patent and develop technology ideas), they would have to work harder to stay in power, meaning they would have to provide more services to the populace in some form. This would increase the amount of work the upper class provides, increase the revenue of the government, provide security for the lower classes, increase proposerity and opportunity for the middle and would be upper classes, and would generally provide a healthier style of life.

What do you think?

I think our miserable little monkey-brains are incapable of "good" government.

I'm with Dreamtwister on this one. A capitalist democracy would end up in the same situation we are in now. A system based on growth that consumes more and more resources until it can no longer physically do so and then collapses.

Why would anyone want to work hard in a system that stole most of your gains from you?

That system kills the goose that lays the golden egg.
