Cool, Mr Bill. Cyprus must be a great place especially now since there are people with some common sense running the island paradise. The communists are too smart. They won't allow Lebanese water to be trucked to any reservoirs. Neither will the Lebanese. Rationing is the only smart play. Anyone complaining needs to SHUT THEIR TRAP!

Yikes!!! I just saw a Chevy Silverado SUV/pickup commercial on CNBC. Spokesperson tells the viewers the monstrous vehicle is a vegetarian because it only burns ethanol. A bunch of school kids are listening intently. Learning.

What he failed to point out is the truck burns people too. GM needs to think about what they're saying and SHUT UP with pushing their hideous people eating SUV's.

Don't forget, too, that although that beast might get 14 mpg on regular dinosaur bones, it will only get about 11 mpg on human food-based fuel.

GM should definitely take its old school industrial soiled trap full of decaying manufacturing teeth and inefficient gums and ZIP IT.

Essentially, it burns people BT. I suppose one could calculate how many calories truck consumed at 4 gallons/day. And how many calories a person consumed each day. You could easily calculate how many people this truck eats.

Let me take a stab at it:

If one gallon of ethanol exists because it has displaced 15 days worth (for a person) of calories, and a 100% ethanol burning Silverado uses 1,460 gallons each year, then each typical Silverado consumes 21,900 people-days of calories. 21,900/365...

Therefore each 100% ethanol-burning Silverado kills about 60 people/yr. Not bad. If the same truck used 10% ethanol it would only kill six people/yr. That means a car burning one gallon/day of 10% ethanol kills only 1.5 people/yr. Someone burning two gallons of 10% ethanol/day would kill only 3 people/yr... etc.

Maybe I need to SHUT UP and quit [s]killing[/s] driving!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('eastbay', 'T')herefore each 100% ethanol-burning Silverado kills about 60 people/yr. Not bad.

And you're not even counting the pedestrians who get run down when the SUV pilot takes the beast "off-road"--i.e., onto the sidewalk.

This business really upsets me. You have made an exquisite point here, Commie. Hopefully it won't take other people long to connect the dots. But it remains to be seen whether the fat, lazy 'Merican has enough real "Christian Values" in him/her to give up the Denali for starving Haitians who are making mud pies to eat.

The SUV ads are using the same Orwell speak that our dear administration is using. They all need to Shut UP.

See I made this point on another thread.

YOU (by that I mean each of us tapping away here) consume way more corn by way of bacon, burger, chicken breast, beer, brie and all the rest than goes into ethanol.

So I'd think the best thing to do if one is worried about starving people is to
GET OFF THE ETHANOL-BASHING WAGON AND SHUT YOUR CORN HOLES!

I know you're not talking to me because I'm a vegetarian non-drinker. If you were talking to me you know what I would tell you.

And it's not 'way more' corn being squandered on meat and booze, because 38% of the corn grown in the USA ended up in gas tanks in 2007 and in 2008 it will likely be closer to half.

So check the stats first Pops or Zip Your Corn Hole

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('eastbay', 'I') know you're not talking to me because I'm a vegetarian non-drinker.

Exactly the point, good for you.

However, not that I trust the government stats much more than the Blog you linked but this stuff from the USDA via MSU seems to disagree.
http://www.msu.edu/user/hilker/usdabscorn.htm

2,117 bu to ethanol of a total or 10,535 production (or 3,100 of 13,000) don't look much like 38% to me but I was never very good with ciphers.

So try to find a somewhat more impartial reference to whack me with and I'll

You just don't have the touch, Hubris. You need bleach-blonde hair, a fuzzy chin and hairy armpits, and seal-blubber breath to set Bill off. The trick to shattering his superficial calm is to dis' economists. So give up and shut your pie-hole.

Cool Pops, thanks for pointing that out. How annoying when people publish errors...

As was pointed out elsewhere, it appears to have reached 25% of total US corn production, not 38% as noted by me above. It'll be at 38% in a year or two regardless, so I'll keep ranting away at what the UN is now calling a crime against humanity

Therefore I'm not going to:

SHUT UP!!

Three econometricians went out hunting, and came across
a large deer. The first econometrician fired, but missed, by
a meter to the left. The second econometrician fired, but
also missed, by a meter to the right. The third
econometrician didn't fire, but shouted in triumph,
"We got it! We got it!"

I thought you were on walkabout for three weeks.

Drought ignites Spain's 'water war'

Eastbay, the Spaniards are going to bring in water by tanker from other parts of Spain and France. They are even talking about diverting rivers. There is no end to the number of engineering tricks one can play if one rejects economic solutions like pricing water properly to encourage conservation. Of course, how can one put a price on water? Silly me! I should SHUT-UP now and let the politicians get to work on REAL solutions to climate change!

Water tankers to be used to take drinking water to Barcelona by sea

I am off tomorrow, BigTex. This week just trying to get ready. I have island fever, so will be good to go somewhere else for a while. Maybe take a shower. So I will SHUT-UP now and leave you alone! ; - ))

Diverting rivers... lol. Such madness.

Anyone who rants on about how it's fine for the poor to starve to death while others burn food in cars seriously needs to:

By 2011 it'll be more like 5,000 out of 13,000 which is just about 38%.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's more like 6,000 out of 12,000 by then or half.

So maybe you should respectfully consider PUTTING A COB IN IT!!!
