Because empathy is overrated. I'm not a xtian and even I think empathy is a pain in the fucking ass.
Empathy isn't something you do, it's something you feel. Can it be learned? That's the big question. Can you actually teach somebody to empathize with other people?
I'm an empathetic person. I feel sorry for people and feel better when I help somebody. Perhaps that's just the way my brain is wired. So how about "A Clockwork Orange" solution? Strap somebody in a chair and feed them empathogens like ecstasy while showing them films of people caring for one another, bringing food to the hungry or hugging someone who's crying.
It probably wouldn't work, and I wouldn't even want to try. But that's the type of thing that would have to be done. You would have to rearrange the neuro-chemical pathways in their brain so that they get a little buzz of pleasure when they see or do something generous.

Who can blame them? This world is a fucking toilet... not worth saving. I almost envy the ignorant bastards. It must be nice to think at the end of a long, fucking shitty day, "aww fuck it none of this shit matters, because when I die I get to go to a place where all my dreams come true." On the other hand, at least I don't have to answer to some imaginary asshole in the sky... so I got that going for me. Plus the eternal unconscioussness also sounds nice.
The truth is most people can't wait to get the fuck off this planet... whether they want to admit it or not. Whether it's through suicide or yanking it to "Super Jew who's his own daddy to the rescue" fantasies, people can't wait to leave this place.
What's the point in trying to save the earth? So there can be more more death, destruction, disease, dieoffs due to overpopulation, etc... just more of the same bullshit? Why bother? The world is gonna end someday anyways.
Face it, this world is a fucking toilet.

Empathy cannot be learned, but it can be unlearned. I used to be one of those people that tried to help everyone until I realized people were just taking advantage of me. It feels so good to say, "it's not my problem" or "I don't care". This world will beat the empathy out of a person... that's what it did to me. I don't understand how an empathetic person can survive in this fucked up world... it seems like they would worry themselves to death.

I think I detect a business opportunity here hubbert! Those are some inspiring words, but not enough people are hearing your message. I'm thinking a 5 dvd set of you jumping around, Anthony Robbins styles, as you share with an excited crowd how you learned to not give a shit for your fellow man. Hell, you'll be preaching to the converted anyway, most people don't give a shit already, but you'll provide them with this great new angle- I used to care, but where did it get me? Freeloaders, bums taking me for a ride. But now, I tell ya, since I saw that hubbert guy, I'm living a whole new life! I don't give a crap, it's numero uno all the way from now on baby... just 10 easy payments, etc...
