We get our identities by reference to what we are not.

We also evolved in a tribal configuration. Tribal competition, for a time, probably replaced our natural predators as a method of population control.

Now, tribalism is just a leftover appendage from another era. It still gives us a pretext for hating and killing each other, it just doesn't function well as a stand-in for natural predators and membership in a real ecosystem.

Yet another way in which the Industrial Humansphere is inferior to the Biosphere that spawned us.

It's all about the wonders of diversity PMS. Remember, we must embrace it all!

I hate SUV's.

No, not the one's driving these hideous creations. These vehicles so very nicely represent the gluttony and waste to which so many delusional people desperately cling.

Basically, it's misunderstanding that never gets cleared up due to pride and stubbornness. Actions then occur, and once things get set in stone by that, it's all downhill.
Then, it becomes a grocery list of grievances, with enough time underway, it become "tradition".

It's always good to get things cleared up as quickly as possible, don't let things stew, even overnight if you can. If one needs a night to cool off and see things clearly, then it's ok, but approach your issues the next morning in a neutral to conciliatory tone.

What works for individuals and families should work for tribes and countries. You must have someone doing the talking who is a good peacemaker and reconciler, someone who has hope.

Other than that, the other people down the line will be bedraggled; people that are humiliated, humbled, torn apart by the war that they were so confidant that could be won just awhile ago. They will have to search very hard to find the hope that could have been there from the very beginning, hope to find that peace.

It's always about finding common ground.

I'm a descendant of Mennonites. I know why my ancestors strove hard to find ways to live peacefully, and it's because they saw war and famine straight for several centuries and saw firsthand what was involved. War, famine, death, torture, families torn apart, devastation of nature, countryside.

Peace just works better.

Everybody everywhere does in the same language

I can see by your coat, my friend
You're from the other side
There's just one thing I've got to know
Can you tell me please, who won?

Say, can I have some of your purple berries
Yes, I've been eating them for six or seven weeks now
Haven't got sick once
Prob'ly keep us both alive

Wooden ships on the water, very free, and easy
Easy, you know the way it's supposed to be
Silver people on the shoreline let us be
Talk'n 'bout very free, and easy

Horror grips us as we watch you die
All we can do is echo your anguished cries
Stare as all human feelings die
We are leaving, you don't need us

Go take a sister, then, by the hand
Lead her away from this foreign land
Far away, where we might laugh again
We are leaving, you don't need us

And it's a fair wind
Blowin' warm out of the south over my shoulder
Guess I'll set a course and go

Ummm, would that Biosphere happen to include the "Nature, red in tooth and claw" of Tennyson's note?

'Tribal competition' had little if anything to do with population control, at least on any conscious level. It's nothing more than the human expression of the universal competition for resources that all species engage in. In fact I would suggest that one thing that is specifically anti-nature in the human sphere is our cultural attempt to rise above our biologically driven murderous tendencies.

Nothing more than anecdotal evidence, dino. Cute, but dogs generally want to rip cat guts apart. I paid $500 once to have a beloved cat stitched up after he was ripped apart by dogs. My poor cat had his intestines exposed. I have no idea how he got out of that jam and laid on my porch in such a pitiable condition.

bullshit, what's anti-nature is our technological civilization that destroys nature without constraint. what we do to each other within this technological civilization, to preserve it, can only be anti-nature because it supports the paradigm. If anything, going back to harmony and peace is much more natural than living like hamsters in cages that only want free food and will never be free, even if there current house smells like crap and urine.

Nice memories, blu. Or are they? The message was grim then, its grim now. The horrors we imagined in our youth are upon us. 70 million net gain in human population every year, etc.

Nice Music bad message.

That's so cute J. I'm almost convinced. But I saw my cat's guts spilled out and I'm not buying it. Dogs hate cats unless trained not to. It's cats that aren't 'in the family' that dogs attack. The cats fight back with sharp claws. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Some dogs like to chase and kill and eat small critters. That doesn't mean they hate them. I'd kill and eat all sorts of things and don't hate them one bit. Quite the contrary.

Sorry about your cat, always sucks when something happens like that. My dog and my roomate's got in a fight (mine won) and her's had to get stiched up. A bummer, and expensive. But they don't hate each other.

Alright, enough of this shit, that was just a rhetorical end to my brilliant 'why do people hate' thread. Give it a rest. Tell me why people hate.

There is a simple answer.

Fear

Thanks to Yoda, we know the full path.

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering

Did you just watch Hotel Rwanda or something? I actually just watched that Thursday. I think a factor in why people hate sometimes is some combination of fear and jealousy.
