Nice find there. How did they get the pumps on though after the gas station was closed? Maybe they used a stolen credit card? That american airlines blurb was rigoddamndiculous. I simply can't grasp that. A crime to waste fuel like that

Most gas pumps that take credits cards can be used anytime whether or not the gas station is actually open.

If you listen closely you will hear that they had west bound passengers in London they had to pick up with the plane, so it was going to have to fly to London even if there had been zero passengers going east. It isn't as if they could just say too bad so sad to the people expecting to fly back east from London, this kind of thing has been common in the past and only makes headlines because of fuel prices.
