We're Like Dogs

Postby BigTex » Sat 29 Mar 2008, 01:20:28

It just occurred to me that we are like dogs.

Dogs were once wolves. They were wild, well adapted to their environment and their population was sustainable. Then they began to be bred selectively to bring out interesting features that have no survival value outside the setting of human civilization.

Dogs' interesting diversity of features and appearance has tracked the diversity among human beings with respect to useless skills, beliefs and ideas.

Dogs are just like humans in that we are both in a state of overshoot. Humans' overshoot is enabled by the availability of cheap oil. Dogs' overshoot is enabled by the availability of cheap dog food (which I'm sure is related to cheap oil in some way).

cats are awesome, you are obviously intimidated by their superiority and are verbally lashing out at them because you're unable to handle the fear and insecurity they instill within you. Instead of demonizing that which you cannot understand, why not meekly accept cats as your natural Lords and Masters, and try to unabashadly cater to their every whim? I think you'll find once you surrender your soul and your very reason for existing to cats and their wishes, peace and serenity will follow. All hail CAT God.

Breeding in dogs has gone way further than in humans. Imagine a whole nation of midgets with a whole nation of NBA size giants next door - Chihuahua vs. Irish Wolfhound, basically. Humans haven't been selectively bred for much of anything, unless environmental factors brought it on.

Our "useless" beliefs and ideas seem to be hardwired and adapted as time goes by. People need their pissed off sun gods for some strange reason. Glad I'm not one! Uh...

Well as a species, we are like dogs in the sense that we live to be on a make believe false world in which we are exempt from nature's laws.

Since our sense of smell is nowhere near as developed as a dogs, and our overdeveloped brains have devised a complex set of morals, inhibitions and socially acceptables models of decorum and conduct, walking up to someone and jamming your nose up his(thankfully) or her(unfortunately) ass is nearly impossible[sigh].
We assess the health of potential rivals or mates visually. Big, strong males indicate healthy genes, which trigger a females instinctual desire to have healthy offspring. In older more mature females a big healthy bank account, indicated by an expensive car or home, means the male will be better able to provide a safe, healthy and secure environment for her offspring. Same for men, the most attractive females for procreation are those that have wide, child-bearing hips(up to a point) and breasts that are obviously capable of feeding babies (bigguns). This is somewhat skewed for men as well as dogs as many, many males will copulate with anything that has a vagina, but still, to most men the classic hourglass figure is most attractive.
Strange how men still find the smell of a womans genitalia intoxicating even though we get no practical information from it, guess that goes back to our cave man days.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he notion that cats are loners has persisted throughout the centuries. Perhaps this is due to the fact that cats are solitary predators, unlike dogs who are pack hunters. In the wild the dog's survival depends on his ability and willingness to work as a member of a team to run down prey. The cat, on the other hand, doesn't have to associate with others to obtain a meal. In fact, the cat's method of hunting which involves stalk, hide-and-wait, and pounce can not be successfully practiced in a group. However, when cats are provided with ample food and shelter and there is no need to compete with other cats for the basic necessities of life, they have proven to be highly social animals. Their sociability is often overlooked by humans because the cat's greetings and displays of affection are so subtle. A nose touch, a slow eye blink, a tilt of the tail, is not nearly as obvious as the well understood face-lick of the dog, but it is just as sincere and deliberate.

So, the question is, are we solitary or group predators? I guess both.

We manipulated the dogs' (and cats') genes. Did we or anything else manipulate our genes?

Nose touch is a cats way of saying hello to those who it considers a friend or member of the family. Yesterday I went out back to get something out of the freezer while two of my cats and a stray that hangs around were out there. Normally my tabby tom Henry ignores me when I'm outside. So I went and tried to make friends with the stray, I was slowly making progress when all of the sudden Henry is there rubbing up against my legs purring away. Very out of character for outdoor mode Henry. So I start petting Henry thinking this will put the stray at ease and he'll cover the few remaining feet between us and I'll finally get to rub his ears. Sure enough stray cat wants a piece and comes over for his right and due proper. Next thing you know these two former friends are hissin' and smackin' at each other like they're fighting over a young Siamese with an inflamed twat. Surprised the shit outta me. The wife says Henry was jealous and was staking a claim to me ?

Not if you compare the physical size and appearance of various breeds of dogs with the size and appearance of the various mental configurations of industrial civilization human beings.

It's the gratuitous variety of human mental configurations that are analogous to dogs.

Just a bunch of useless skills.

In a way..yes!

Just think of all the low IQ sheeple who are alive today (and wouldnt be if we didn't sheltered the world around them so they can't harm themlselves and by this, allowing even the most stupid dumbass to survive and breed) and always asking the gouvernment to do something to make sure they, or their relatives, won't do something stupid by themselves..

"Put a law again speeding !"
"Huuh..We already did that a long time ago.."
"That's not enough, i feel we must have more laws again speeding!!"
"But the number of deaths is so low.."
"I DON'T CARE, IF IT CAN SAVE ONE LIFE..."
"Okaaay..there, it will cost twice for a speeding ticket, nkay?"
"Good..i feel relieved i can go on with my life!"

12 days later..

"MY SON KILLED HIMSELF WHILE USING MY CAR AND CRASHED AT 163 MILES AN HOUR IN A PIT..HOW CAN IT BE!?? WE NEED MORE LAWS..MORE.."

"Groawn....."

Coming back next week with Gun Control as the subject ! As a introduction, we will be talking about how being defenseless make one safer..

my vote would be for a much lower life form ... parasites...

no, most parasites are wise enough to not destroy there host. We're parasites if we're talking of our technological civilization, but viruses or bacterial pathologies if we're talking of nature as host.

You may be right. Cockroaches are resilient, like us. Cockroaches are aggressive, clever and hard to kill, like us. They will reproduce up to the level of availability of resources for current consumption, like us.

Perhaps it would be accurate to say that cockroaches are to human beings what human beings are to Mother Nature.

If only we had the braIns of dogs... or should I say if only most of us had the brains of dogs. Most people give their dogs more guidelines and rules about how to go on in society today than they do their kids.

Some people pay more attention to how socialized their dogs are than they do their kids. Most people feed their dogs more nutrionally balanced food than they do their kids.

Its considered horrible (if not outright cruelty) to keep a big dog (80-150 lbs) in a small appartment, but its ok to keep three kids (who should be almost as active and are certainly a lot smarter) in one.
