"funny" how we talked about this and concluded that biofuels were going to cause more problems than solve them years ago and how fast reality and the mainstream media is now catching up with that realisation.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bas', '"')funny" how we talked about this and concluded that biofuels were going to cause more problems than solve them years ago and how fast reality and the mainstream media is now catching up with that realisation.

It's a no-brainer, even for the MSM.

We continue to drive like we always have, or they eat. One or the other. We can't have it both ways.

well, we've had the ethanol/biodieselprograms for years, but it's only recently that heavy weighing "official" reports condemning these have penetrated the media in a decisive way; so actually it's disapointing that the MSM never concluded the obvious by themselves but instead waited for these reports to come out before making any "noise" about it.

Biofuels are a reasonable alternative, and all the info is being twisted and skewed by the energy corporations os they won't loose profits. Retrofitting factories with pools of water and infusing CO2 into the water, thus growing blue-green algies that would produce up to 50% of the biomass as veggie oil would produce enough biodiesel or straight vegetable oil to fuel a large quantity of cars & trucks. Using the models in So. America, using sugar cane for ethenol production yields more fuel than corn. Then there is switch grass, wood cellulose for biofuels. Also by using the biofuels to power the production plants instead of petro-fuels, they can reduce fossil fuel consumption. Also the remaining biomass could be used for energy by burning or in fertelizer in the production of the next crops. Yes, the initial startup costs could be enormous, but the eventual yield will off set the costs. Don't people realize there is a large amount of fuel consumption in the production of petro-fuels? I've never seen these numbers in the data regurgitated by our mass media outlets.

And once again, using food crops for is, along with globalisation, one of the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas.

Not to mention it's a sick joke.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('peaker_2005', 'N')ot to mention it's a sick joke.

It would only be a sick joke if you said "Guess what, we're going to start using our food to fuel our cars, even though it doesn't work that well and we really need the food. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!, just kidding."

If you actually did it, then it would just be sick.
